I use Half.com sometimes while shopping for textbooks I'll need in the coming semester, but when I am finished with my classes, I list nearly all my books back on Half.com, including ones that I purchased elsewhere. Do you do this? Recently I listed some other books that I no longer want, but which are not textbooks, and one of them was finally bought. For books selling at a decent price, you can make quite a profit, more than you would if taking them to a used bookstore. This week, I am expecting about $66 from items sold on Half.com.

I've always sold books back on eBay, but recently ran into quite a few that I couldn't seem to sell back. What are the fees like on Half.com? Can people still pay you with PayPal? I have a lot of books I'd like to sell.

I'm going to check into this. I don't have textbooks, but I have a lot of books that I've finished reading that are sitting in a box. I was going to donate them somewhere, but if I can sell them I will. Does anyone know what kinds of books they take?

Thanks! I'm going to get those books out in the morning and see about listing them. Even a few dollars will help at this point!

You can really sell just about anything, as long as Half.com recognizes the ISBN. And if it doesn't recognize it...I suppose that could mean the book has never been listed before. As far as I know, there are no limits on what you can list, but it should be mentioned somewhere in the terms of use.

I think its a wonderful Idea. I would rather by a used book then a new one to save money if I can. If your done with it, why not try and sell or give it back. You are hellping someone else out and also retaining the money you used to get it. It would be cool if more students dii this...

I agree completely. I think there are quite a few students who do use it, judging by the way textbooks are snapped up around the time classes are beginning, but more would definitely be better!

Half.com, which is a branch of eBay, can also be used to buy/sell music, movies, videogames, and game systems.

I have used half.com before to sell some of my books and they definitely let you make more $ than selling at the bookstore! I have also bought books there and had good experiencea with that too.

I'm sorry that you see this as a "stupid thing", but if you had taken the time to read over the responses posted by other people, you would see that they are finding this to be quite a useful discussion.

Thanks so much for sharing this detail. Will check out the site. One more thing is the site only for US citizens or people from other countries can also do the buying and selling. I am from India

I checked out their help desk and it looks like only people in the US can use Half.com. eBay, however, appears to be more widely available.

Yes, I do the same thing, as I'm currently a student and sell back most of my books on Half.com, you can also sell them Amazon too, so if you find sales sluggish, try them as well.

I really like half.com too. I've sold books, CDs, and videos with them. It's nice that they reimburse you for shipping and don't charge you a fee if it doesn't sell. It's easy to use you can list items indefinitely.

Yes it is free to list at half.com. They simply take a percentage of the selling price which can be as high as 15% depending on the selling price. You are paid by direct deposit twice a month. You have to fork over the money for shipping and they reimburse you. They have a set amount for shippind depending on what type of item was sold. the buyer pays Half.com. What you get is the selling price minus their commission plus shipping reimbursement. As far as I know by what is listed in the help section of the website, they are not curretnly accepting paypal for either receiving payments or paying the sellers. It is all done by credit card for buying and direct deposit for paying sellers. If you can wait and only get paid twice a month then it is a really great deal. You set the pice you want to sell the book for. I have noticed that books tend to sell better on half.com than on ebay. textbooks are the best sellers. You can list an item that does not have an isbn, you just need to include your own pictures and desription if you want. They only accept Region 1 dvd's to be listed. Check out the help section of the site as it has all the info you need to buy or sell on there.

Aww, I was hoping they'd do PayPal. Well, I guess I'll sell books on here that I can't sell on Ebay. I was disappointed when I saw the shipping amounts because it's not generally really that low. But I just raised the prices of the books accordingly.

Textbooks really sell well on Half.com. I have also sold a few other books but not many. I think you can make a good monthly income from there but only if you have a lot of different books listed. I have some books listed that have been there for months. I guess it just depends on what is popular at the moment. I think most people who shop there use the search and know what they are looking for but there isn't much browsing. But since I can list the books for free I list them and forget about them until they sell.

Ah cool, so listing is free? But you pay when they are sold? I like that eBay is fast, and that my popular textbooks sold for good amounts (one for more than I paid for it!). But I'm left with a lot of books that I paid the listing fee on, and they never moved out the door because no one bid.

I have never listed anything on half.com but I have purchased here once. It was great- A friend e-mailed me a code for $5 off a $10 purchase as a new customer. I got a dvd for my daughter for Christmas.. I must admit that I only look for new items when I shop here at half.com. The shipping rates are high I think.... Compared to e-bay where sometimes you get it for free when you Buy it now. I haven't boughten anything here in a bit- thanks for the reminder I'll go back and check it out!

I do the same thing most of the time, but there are certain things (i.e. many textbooks) that are difficult to get by just going to a shop nearby. They are available at school bookstores if they're classes I'm about to take, but the prices are usually so much higher than the ones I can find online.

I use half.com and think it is wonderful. They keep you from sitting and letting your inventory fall stagnant by reminding you to change things or they will delete your inventory. The fees they take out when the item sells is reasonable and they always add on a fair amount for shipping.

Thanks for mentioning half.com because I did not know that there is a site where I can sell my used text book which I really want to do. It is good to hear your positive experience with that site. I will try selling my books there too. Thanks a lot.
