Rating, how do you decide what you rate someone's response or question?

It seems to me like sometimes people judge ratings on their own personal views and disagreements with somebody, rather than on the true quality of the question/answer. Does anybody do this or do you just judge on the quality of the answer whether you agree with their opinion or not?

I rate postive most of the discussions/posts I see. I only rate negative when I can't understand what they are saying (l33t speak), one-line answers or spam. I would never rate someone negative because I don't agree with their views, that's not the point of ratings.

I have seen many people with lower star ratings then I would feel is right (after going through and reading their posts). This leads me to agree with you that some people must be ignoring the rules here and rating others based on if they agree or not. Personally I do not do that. I will rate others based on if I think they contributed to the discussion or gave a valid answer to the question. I will also rate poor if someone is being nasty or attacking others though. I sure wish more people would follow the rules and rate others correctly though!

I agree! I think the purpose of the rating system is wonderful, just wish people would use it for what its for.

I always judge on the quality of the response. It doesn't matter if we have different view points. As long as they put some thought into it, and tried to respond honestly, I am pleased. Blessings, M&M
