basically...because they dont like anything that is not their beliefs. witchcraft or paganism in general is not what they believe in, therefore they consider it wrong and evil. if it goes against what christianity teaches, then it is considered of "demon or devil" origin. and of course they cant abide by that. so they tried to erradicate it. fortunatly paganism has managed to survive. sure witchcraft can be good. if you use what you learn to help ppl or better the world in your own way, then its definatly good. "witches" or more commonly termed today as Wiccans, follow one belief that says everything about them..."Do what ye will, an it harm none" if they never harm, then how can they be evil? your a logical, free thinking being, and that is a wonderful thing. and if you wish to learn the wiccan way...then blessed be to you, for you will help the world be a more compassionate place.

Hippies have the same motto. As the child of hippies, I feel a kinship.

Because the Bible says so, and Fundie Christians cannot do anything outside the book that was written thousands of years ago. Plus they are horribly misinformed about the nature of magic, considering it evil and from Satan. Because the book says so.

Oh, and half of the early spiritual writings of Judeo Christian faith are not even in the Bible, and fundies don't know about them. And if you point them out, they say it is all a lie. Personally, I love the writings of the Gnostics. And the Gospels that the KJV of the Bible hid away and even tried to burn. How can you follow to the letter a book that only exists in pieces?

You have to understand that when Christianity was first started out they took the pagan Gods and said they were devils or demons. They said it was evil to get more followers. They later condemned anyone who was a free thinker, anyone who questioned the church, it's policies and teachings. It was their way of maintaining control. Now in this time the old beliefs still linger to this day. Sad but true. They want to believe that witchcraft is consorting with the devil since that is what the Christian faith taught for so long. They don't question, they don't find out the facts, they just follow.

People don't like things that are not in tune with their own religions, so if witchcraft is not appropriate in their teachings they will perceive this as evil. I heard from a pastor once that according to the bible, those who worhsip pagan gods, witches, sorcerers are instruments of the devil, so that is what they believe without even trying to understand both sides of the story.
