I was born in Thailand and came to the USA when I was four. In my 18 years in this country, I've felt pretty welcome but I have to admit that I've had a couple run-ins with situations where my ethnicity was targeted upon. I remember when I was little, an afrcan american boy who lived in my neighborhood yelled a couple racial slurrs at me and told me to go back to my country. This coming from a black boy whose racial history is loaded with racial intolerance? I didn't respond back but now that I think about it, I wish I had. Whatever happened to the melting pot we all read about in elementary social studies class? Why can't we all just get along?
