Question - How short is too short when it comes to a dress or skirt?

When I worked at our local high school, one of the students was sent home from school to change her attire. Her skirt was so short that you could see the line of her underwear. If it weren't for the back pack she carried her butt would have shown with every step she took. This caused quite a buzz around the office.

Nowadays the rules are usually that the skirt has to be fingertip length when they place their hands to their sides. I doubt girls follow those rules though. I see girls all the time with skirts just long enough to cover their underwear, I dont think its appropriate at all.

Me neither, I think it's unbelievable they even sell skirts that short. Our rule was the same, fingertip length, but we had uniforms so it wasn't easy to make them shorter anyway. I have seen short short skirts that had shorts sewn into them (skorts) and those are fine... but if it's really a skirt so short that you can see underwear, that is ridiculous and I sure hope her parents didn't allow that.

The finger tip length thing is what they had when I was in school only 7 years ago. However I did notice that the cheerleading outfits they had where a lot shorter and with the bigger girls it barely covered their tush. Everyone could she their lollies (I think that's what they called them) Anyways I could never where a skirt that short.

I think it all started with the cheerleaders actually. They were getting shorter and shorter at my school. My friends in cheerleading didn't call those underthings lollies, but now I can't remember the word they always used! Oh well. Regardless, all girls with skirts that short should where those black under-cover things.

If you can see undies the skirt is way to short. What gets me is the chunky girls who wear the short skirts and the daisy duke shorts. You just wonder "what are they thinking". I have never had the nerve to wear something that short.

I believe a skirt is too short when you put it on and bend over your bottom shows or is close to showing. I can't believe her parents let her leave the house that way! I would never allow any of my daughters to wear a skirt that short. I believe if you've got it flaunt it, but be tasteful. Leave something to the imagination. And in high school, the boys don't need that kind of distraction.

We were also wondering where her parents were when she donned this skirt.

They might not have known. She could have changed on her way to school or at the school for that matter. Also so many parents work that they might have left before her. It does happen.

I think THAT is too short. If you wear clothes and the only thing keeping your private parts, covered is your underwear, you have issues, IMO. Women that dress like that, I am sorry are only looking for attention and think they have nothing else to offer to get it. Sad.

She was one to draw attention to herself. SHe had a boyfriend who followed her around like a lost puppy.

that's way too short. no girl in high school should wear those things because the boys might try to hurt her since they think she's easy.

I would say that anything where you can see any part of the underwear is _far_ too short. I am glad that they sent her back home. I can't imagine her being allowed to stay around school wearing something like that. Honestly, it's amazing to me that such things are even in fashion. It's scary what society is teaching our kids about how to dress. Things like that really aren't even appropriate to be worn into the public!

Its just another reocurring fad. When I was in school they had the sizzler outfits. They were very short dresses that had matching undies with them. Needless to say that was shortly banned from being worn at school.

What about this latest trend celebrities have of not wearing any underwear along with their shorts skirts? I think it's disgusting that people have to look at what others decide to show off. A few might appreciate it, but most of us don't want to see. I think really short skirts are fine if they're worn over leggings or tights. Otherwise they need to be long enough to cover things up when bending over and sitting down.

It might be disgusting, but, it is their choice if thats what they want to do then no one can stop them.. i don't think they should be judged on that or be spoken rudly about like that. another exmaple would be, if you wer seen wearin big hoop earrings , your a tramp, thats not fair either. people should just mind their own business

I say as long as you are not showing anywhere close to signs of underwear that it's ok. I don't think there's anything wrong with showing off a little leg. It's a great feature of the female body!

Well if you talk about freedom than you cannot say she did anything wrong. But according to me, being a muslim, we have a dress code and that stops from vulgarity.

At my daughters school it says that it has to be finger tip length but our daughter has what we call monkey arms, and so we let her her wear them no higher then her wrist.

I'm actully sitting here in my school skirt now and its really short but thats the way i like it so.. our school does have a policy ,that your skirt is suposed to be below the knee, but this just makes us look sad... and depressed looking and its just not nice looking at all.. I can't see why the don't want us having short skirts, it isn't doing them any harm lyk is it ??

I can see that this is a very contraversial topic. We all have the ability to make our own choices and that is as it should be. I do have an opinion on this and please remember, it is my opionion. I believe in dressing modest. I do not think skirts should be any shorter than 2 inches above the knee. I personally wear mine at knee or below.

This girl had other garments to wear to school. I believe she was trying to get attention in any way she could.

I think it is good if the school has a strict regulation for the students included how they should wear the clothes.Because it can influence the environment of the school.

of course the boys like it. I think they liked the girls who didnt wear panties even more. That doesnt make it right or the way we should judge.

i belive that a skirt is at it´s sexiest when it shows a little but NOT all, then it just becomes vulgar. I think people should cover up more than waht most people do today - atleast over here. It is so freaking cold here right now, but still u can see girls dressed in almost nothing on a saturday night... It´s scary!

I thought that the rule was that skirts had to touch the top of the knee? That's usually the code in a professional office, I know. Where are all of the parents when these teenagers are leaving for school? I would have never gotten out of the house dressed like that!

I would roll the waistband of my skirt up so I could show my knee. My parents were very strict. But as for showing off my hiney...no way.

i think it is to short if you see any kind of underwear or but! ofcourse most of the man like this, but i think when you go to school you have to behave yourself, what you do in your sparetime it is up to you!don't look surprised when guys touch you wearing these kind of things! (i am talking to the student right now)

I think if you are constantly pulling on your skirt or dress so it covers everything, it is way too short. The line of your underwear is indecent exposure. I don't know what the students are thinking when they do something like this.

I truly believe that this girl was lacking in self-esteem.
