Nabel laurete scientist Paul Crutzen discovered ozone hole in the earth's atmosphere and explained the way the whole was created and the cause of the hole. He showed that the excessive use of refrigerant carbonflurocarbon (CFC)is at the root of this evil. As the ozone layer becomes thinner and thinner. the Uv rays from the sun penetrates the atmosphere and most likely to wreak havoc into the biosphere.
Paul Crutzen stopped short of calling the present geological age as holocene, rather he called it Anthropocene which means this is abolutely dominated by humankind and its dtrimental activity which we know as civilization. This quantum leap from Holocene to Anthropocene era is not the consequence of natural evolution but rather it is man-made and historically determined.
This human civilzation is simply due to unprecedented technological revolution which has become the defining and determining factor of Earth's system over the 200 years. Examles are aplenty. By using fossil fuels like petrol and diesel, the carbon dioxide content of the atmosphere has become very high as a result of which the climate system is likely to be badly affected. The climate experts warn that we are heading towards the 'tipping point', a point of absolutely no return. They also warn that Greenland's ice cap will melt down causing the sea level rise by up to 7 metres and yhe rainforests of Congo and Amazon will be on the verge of being deluged.
This is the high price we paying at the cost of civilization!
