Virtual Worlds... Millionaires?

I recently read an article about a virtual world, Second Life. The article is located here: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/119328/second_life_and_the_virtual_buck.html WOW! I felt like I missed out on something that has been around for a while. While reading over a work at home message board -- I saw that a few women were averaging $50/USD a day using this virtual world. So hey... who doesn't like making money? I googled Second Life, and joined. I needed to see for myself what it's all about. The money making aspect I still don't quite understand, but I'm slowly catching on. If you clicked the link and read the article... it mentions one user who has hit the MILLION dollar mark in this virtual world. If he/she decides to withdrawal this virtual money to USD - they will be a millionaire! How they made that much, I'm still wondering. Virtual world's like Second Life allow you to purchase land, property, stock, etc. After checking out Second Life... I also found Weblo. Weblo is a bit similar, but no downloads, no avatars. You can buy/sell domains like google, yahoo (I bought chacha.com, on Weblo). You can even buy cities and states! So my questions for you all are... Do you participate in similar virtual worlds like Second Life? Are they profitable? What is your opinion on making money in a virtual world?

There're too many scams out there for one to weed through all (or most, or even some of) them and come out unscathed. But I guess sometimes it's worth the risk coz maybe sometimes it DOES pay off. Goodluck to us finding those that actually do :)

I read a similar article in a known and respected magazine here in Italy and from what I read I understood that this site isn't a scam and it DOES really provide you cash, but I think it requires a lot of time and besides it isn't totally free, so... Anyway the idea is cool and I doubt they aren't serious.
