0.999 reccuring = 1?

Is that true, because my friend said that it is, without rounding up, but I didn't understand how, but then he gave some good evidence: 1/3 = 0.33333 2/3 = 0.66666 3/3 = 0.99999 But 3/3 also = 1 So 0.9999 = 1 But i need your opinion on this.

Yes. 0.999 recurring is equal to 1. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/0.999... Here is another algebraic proof: c = 0.999... 10c = 9.999... 9c = 9 c = 1 Therefore 1 = c = 0.999... Therefore, 0.999... = 1

0.333333 does not equal 1/3. there is no such thing as 1/3. So 3/3 equals 1 but not 0.99999
