Has anyone been to Asheville, N.C.? What was your opinion of this city? What did you enjoy doing there? What was not so nice?

I thought about moving there about 10-11 years ago with a boyfriend who really wanted to live in the mountains. We both started looking for jobs at the same time and I was offered one first. I made the decision to not go there without him and I'm glad I did, because less than a year after all of this had happened we had broken up, and if I had been in Asheville I would have been alone in a place I didn't choose. That being said, I thought it was a lovely town, very charming. It wasn't really my cup of tea. At the time it felt a little too "small town" to me. That could very well have changed by now. At the time I was mainly considering it because of this "love" of mine. I wouldn't mind visiting again someday. It was a very nice place.

Hi CrazyNurse! I lived in Asheville for 6 months. It is a really neat place to live and visit! We couldn't afford to buy a home there though, so we had to buy in a different county. The thing we liked about Asheville is the arts, the young feel it has, the old feel it has, the eclectic atmosphere. All walks of life, very little worry about not fitting in because everyone beats to their own drummer and since it's such a melting pot, there is a sense of acceptance there. There are a lot of jobs in Asheville too. Their taxes are high and real estate is very high. Otherwise, it's a great place to live, visit and drive through! The people are very friendly.
