I started working out two weeks ago when I discovered that I couldn't even do one push up. So embarrassing. I am slowly getting to the point where I might be able to do one. Ok, so my husband laughed because I barely bent my arms and I was proud that I was able to push myself back up. What can I do to work my arms up to the point of doing a push up?

Start by doing them in a standing position. Stand about 1 foot or so from the wall, place your hands in the same position on the wall as you would for a regular push up. This will work you pecs and biceps and triceps.
Also using free weights, starting with 2lbs is good for working those muscles plus your deltoids

I cannot do one either, hehehhe. Why should we, leave it to the men. :) If you want to though, build up your arms with weights. Start off slow, with only one pound. You can use a can of food if you don't have weights to start. Then work your way up to five pounds.

that's ok. i can't do a push up either. my arms are fairly weak so i cant push myself up. i get down and that's where i stay. lol. you can lift free weights and do push ups on an exercise ball. it helps a lot because you can position your body to do hard push ups or easy ones.

My son had this problem, too. His phys. ed teacher taught him to do pushups on the wall. This built up his upper body strength to the point where he could do them normally on the floor. Try it, just use the same form that you would use doing a floor pushup.
