I know someone who wants to be a Trailer Mechanic / Tech. He wants to do the repairs on semi trailers like welding ,brakes ,etc. He doesn't want to be a diesel mechanic [work on the engines]. What kind of education does he need to get? What degree? I appreciate any help.

From what I understand a lot of this can be learned at a vocational school. Training in welding, air-brake systems, 12-volt electrical systems, and air conditioner systems for reefer trailers would be a good start. There are a lot of places that will hire as an apprentice and he would gain on-the-job training, but with the above under his belt he would be a step ahead of the rest. He should talk with someone at a vocational school or local trucking company for more information. Hope this helps.

Thanks for answering.Every bit of information helps. He has tried talking to different trucking companies. They don't seem to want to tell him anything, since they aren't hiring. He figured that he would need to go to a vocational school He just can't find the information as to what type of degree he would need ; i.e. what's the name of it. I've searched and can't find that either.
