Can't get child to read

My child is in the 3rd grade. They have a program in his school called the acclerated reader program. I personally love this program. The trouble we are having is getting him to reach is goal every nine weeks. He has to read only sixteen books. I have tried taking aways game systems, I have tried special awards and nothing seems to work. Any else have acclerated reader programs in their childs school? How do you feel about tha program? Any tricks on getting their goal meet?

my child loves to read so i dont have this problem.
are the books part of a required list? or can he choose whatever books he wants?
if he can choose then perhaps the ones you've been having him read just arent of interst to him. try asking him what some of his favorite things are, then looking for books about that subject or that tell storys about characters that love that too.
