Women's issues- what happened to relevance?

I seem to be on a roll of difficult topics tonight, so here goes: Being a guy, my understanding of women's issues might fill a teaspoon relative to a woman's understanding of those issues, but I am wondering where all the real issues went in the women's rights saga. As far as I've heard lately, everyone's "empowered", but domestic violence has doubled. Presumably Little Ms. Mass Of Compund Fractures is feeling pretty good about being empowered. The women's shelters probably get more encouragement out of that than being funded, too. The slave trade's doing nicely, but never gets a mention. So whole generations of kids can be vectors for various diseases and crimes, but not given column space. Interesting way of representing half the human race. A thunderous silence. Frankly I've heard more fuss over some tacky billboard than any of those issues combined. We've got plenty of highly articulate women on myLot. What's happening to the big issues? Are you just getting kept off the agenda, or is someone not getting the messages across?
