My mother told me today when she went to volunteer at the church they had a slight problem the night before. Seems someone spray painted on the one wall "God Sucks". I agree not very nice. My mom looked at the priest and stated "Well at least they believe in God." She was trying to lighten the mood. Do you think it helps when we can try to turn the negative stuff into good?

That was a very good reacion from your mom. And if the church has a youthgroup the graffittitext it could be used for a discussionpoint. These texts can raise vaulable questions.

It actually surprised me since my mom has almost no sense of humor. I don't think they have a youth group but they do have CCD on Sundays. They might bring it up there.

Good point it did. It was nice to see she could joke at times, especially when it's about the church. Normally she's very serious about it.

So the graffiti in the end was appealing for you too since it showed a side of your mom (more sense of humor than you though) you never expecteed.

First it is good that your mom reacted like that. Now one thing that makes me really sad is when people do not respect other people right to believe. I do not have any beliefs in deities and it is not the question here, but why people do this kind of thing (spray paiting) is something that I just can't accept. Ans answering your question, yes, it helps, at least the stress level drops a little.

Lowering stress is always good. I agree the vandelism was wrong all the way around, no question there. I just thought it was differnt and neat that she was able to find that way to look past it. Very unusual for my mother trust me on that.

That is awesome! ha ha I agree with your mom...as least they know those that did it believe in God. ha ha I do try to find a brighter side to things. It makes those negatives easier to deal with. Example: The first years of my son's life he had problems with sleep apnea and could not hear or talk. Well, when he was almost 3, he was injured and was hospitalized. During his stay, they were able to record his sleep apnea and doctors realized that there was something wrong with his speech and hearing. No...they couldn't believe me before then. But I will not get into that rant. The point is...Even though it was a very rough time for us, he finally got the help he needed for his sleep apnea that in turn also resolved his hearing loss and is now talking. :) Something on the bright side for a very dark saddening situation. :)

I'm very glad to hear things turned out well for your son. Sometimes it's only at looking at the good things that we can keep going on. If we didn't we might not be able to manage in life.

Ha! yes, I think sometimes in life we take things too seriously. We take ourselves, and situations too seriuosly. IF we all tried to look at the bright side on occasion, we would problably be alot happier and not have as much stress as we do. I think most of the time, we stress ourselves out.

Good point. We do have a tendency to stress ourselves out too much over things we can change. It's better to just relax and let those take care of themselves.

I think your mom's attitude is great it always helps when we can try to turn the negative stuff into something good. I agree something good can come of this bad thing, if it reminds everyone that we must all work to make sure our youth understand and respect the rights and sensibilities of others.

It's not always easy to do I know but we should always try to. Sometimes we just have to look a bit deeper into ourselves to find the good.

Yes we have to for self preservaton in this world today ...I mean we can't just let everyday be a bad day because of the things that happen with ,to and around us ... I try to keep my sanity by looking for the good in all bad ...that doesn't mean I can always find some good in all bad ...but to keep a postive outlook in life you really need to try ... I do my best anyways

It can be difficult sometimes but I agree we do need to to try, if for no other reason to be able to keep going. If we concentrate only on the bad we wouldn't do a whole lot in life.

It's a sad world isn't it, even as a "not at all sure what I believe" person I could never understand how people can do such a bad thing. Your mum was right to lighten the mood, there's too much unhappiness in this world and if we let it get us down, then it will just seem worse and worse. Maybe God does suck - all the bad stuff away, who knows it may have been the start of an odd but far nicer graffiti.

It could have been. Some graffiti is very well done. I got the impression from my mother this one wasn't that way but who knows.

Yes! Very much so! Getting upset doesn't help. The vandalism wasn't nice, or good, but no one was hurt. God, afterall, is likely quite used to such things..

That was my thought. It could have been a lot worse. And at least that can be fixed up easily enough. No I don't agree with vandelism but if we can find a way to make light of it, it can be easier to handle.

I always try to find the lighter side. I guess it's the ultimate optimist! LOL

Your Mom just became my personal hero. There is so much negative in the world and people so often overreact in a bad situation, kudos to your mom for making a joke. She could have pissed and moaned about it and made everyones day even more miserable but she took the higher road. Good for her.

Exactly, she could have but at least she tried to find a bright side which probably helped others to as well.
