How long should it take to fix a computer?

I took my computer in to be fixed almost a month ago now. How long should it take them to fix it? First it started to go into sleep mode by itself, I lived with that. then it wouldn't boot up so i took it in for that. They got that fixed in about a week. They took of over 200 vireses and spyware things. Then I brought it home and it went right back into sleep mode. They have had it almost a month now tring to fix that. They say they will call be the next day but they never have. I always have to call them and I get called back 2-3 days later. Is there anything I can do to speed it up?

Yes the best thing for you to do is to go and wait till they rectified the actual problem, then let them fix it there and then otherwise it will stay till next.

Probably not. The time that is takes to get the computer fixed depends on what the issue is and how many other PCs they have to fix. If they are testing your PC and stopping every time something simple to fix comes in, your PC may be in the shop for awhile. If they can't give you an update, I would get the PC back and take it to someone local that you can trust. That way you can stop by every so often to check on the progress.

It does seem to me they stop to work on other peoples computers. I think it should be first come first serve no matter if it's a business or an individual. One reason I'm keeping it there though is because they aren't going to charge me. If they do try I'll have words with them because I would have taken it somewhere else cheaper and faster. They did charge me for taking off the viruses though and some other stuff. Thanks for your reply.

That is good, at least some of the work is beingdone for free. Did you research your problem before taking it in to find out if you could just do the repairs yourself?

I work on computers myself and I have never had a person's computer for a month. If there was a lot of spyware on it, then it takes about two or three days to clean that all off that usually also cleans the viruses off of your computer. A lot of the sites that people recommend can be good but they can also harm your computer by tracking you, i.e. what sites you are on, your accounts, passwords, everything. I had that problem with mine a few months back and the best program for this is called SpySweeper. It sweeps your computer for any tracking software and doesn't allow anything harmful to download unless you authorize it. I would go to where you have your computer and have them show you exactly what they are doing to your computer. Every time they do something on your computer they have to log it. And they should be allowing you to see the types of spyware also called adware that they have removed. I have to work on a few computer at one time to get the jobs done but when someone asks me about their computer I can get them up to date in less than five minutes because of the paperwork that is filled out. They also have to track what they do to your computer so that when someone else goes to work on your computer they can look at the paperwork and tell what has been done.

If you're using Windows, then you most definitely should reinstall your Operating System every few years, because for some reason it deteriorates after a while. I do it about every two years, it's really not hard to do. Just be sure to back up all the most important files and figure out what programs you want to reinstall and put them aside. After a nice clean install, your computer should be running much faster.

Oh, also once you have a fresh system, get a good anti-virus program, like McAfee or Norton. It costs a bit, but it's worth it. Or Avast, which is free and just as good. Spy-bot is also free and it's a good anti-spyware program. Let it run about once a day.

I had Norton and the guy told me Norton is on the way out as far as a good anti-virus program. i agree with him.

Yeah, get a new computer. The money that you are using to fix that computer could be used to get a new one. Since it is obvious those people are taking their sweet time to fix your computer, which I don't think that it would take that long to get it fixed.

maybe you gave at the wrong place, usually if i had a problem i can fix it myself, and if there is anything wrong with the hardware, then also it doesn't take much long as long as you have a backup spare. i think for a computer to be fixed at the most refreshing the Operating System and installing the softwares it harly takes more then a couple of hours.

Why not just get a new one.

First you need to make sure if its a hardware or software problem. Had one a few years ago that did this and everyone kept telling me was software. Bought all the recommended stuff and ran it no help. Did same as you took it to a shop they kept it for few weeks and said they could find problem. I called manfacturer HP on that one tech there said right up front was power supply. They sent me a new power supply I installed in about 20 minutes and it was good to go. That same unit my relatives have and it's still running. Have some one check power supply.

They did and I bought a new one. It still does it so they are running more tests. I should be getting a call later today to see how things are going.

The time taken to fix the computer depends on the type of issue it has if it a simple issue it can be resolved with a hour if it is a hardware or software isseu ti may take a longer time than that so it depends on the type of issue the copmuter has.

This process can take a long time, depending on the speed and age of the machine, ... You will be able to connect to their computer remotely and fix any ...

I have had my old computer fixed many times and even upgraded a few parts and it NEVER took a month to get it done the most it took was 2-3 days because they had to get the part they needed to upgrade it. You are being taken for a ride. You need to get your computer back and take it somewhere else. The money you are investing in your computer right now will buy you a new one. I eventually broke down and invested in a rebuilt Dell and it is wonderfull.

it depends on the way u ur computer... i dont think that the sleep mode was any sort of error it would have been a mere setting.... for the non bootability it just format it up...... and if theres an hardware error then hand off ur computer take it to a hardware proffesional

i think one month is enough already because the pc that you have is not only the one that they're fixing, in short, you're not the only customer they're attending to. now, if it's over one month already, ask them professionally what's taking them so long and your last resort would be to take back your pc and look for another shop that can repair your pc. try also looking for answers on some forums in the internet. hmmm, why not post a question about your computer and we'll try to isolate the problem first and maybe some users could help you in your problem. good luck on your decision.

that should not take that long. maybe in 2-3days will do. just pull out your computer where you take it. and try to find someoneelse to fix it in your house so you know what will they do to it.
