There are many good reasons for Allah the Almighty to ask women to cover their body. Imagine a situation in a quiet alley in the middle of night where there are three people: two females: one wearing skimpy outfit which exposes her chest and thigh, another wearing a cover which covers her body except her face. Another person in that alley is a male culprit who love to harass women. Now I ask you, if the culprit saw both females, which one do you think he will be dare to harass first? The one with skimpy outfit or the one who cover her body?
In Islam covering their body is a must for Muslim women. It is a relationship between human and Allah. But, if the women refuse to cover, it is the matter between her and Allah. As another Muslim, you can only remind her of what she doing, but you can't take physical action against they who refuse, that's not your right to do so. Whether the women wants to cover or not, it's between her and Allah. Whatever Allah wants to do with them, that's for Him to decide.

I understand why muslim women cover themselves - becuse of religious commandments - and I respect the fact that everyone is entitled to their own values. but what i cannot get my head round is why it has to be the females that have to prevent the males from looking at them and having evil thoughts. What is wrong with the males having to control themselves! I do not wish to offend anyone - i am just curious.

skiprincess this is what happens. In reality, when people go to the mall, to an offic, anywhere, and they see each other, meaning, they cross their eyes, there may occur attraction or not. To avoid such a thing and to protect a marriage, women wear a veil and a long gown (not all wear long gown 100% all of the time). I'm not a scholar in my religion, but a veil promotes more respect towards women who wear it. You were positive rated!

Well we cover 1st because our lord commanded us to do so.... and some of the wisdoms behind us covering is its a protection from other mens looks and evil thoughts... it helps us to not look at other men and to only show our bodies to our husbands and male family members... fahters, uncles and so on. I like covering it makes me feel like im a prize and only my husband knows whats inside.

yeh but thats a week opinion ... its a submission to our lord not our husbands. they like that we cover (our husbands) but we do it to obey and please our lord. Like my husband when he was looking to get married (before he married me) he was looking for women who were already covering. And its permissible for muslim men to marry non muslim women ... and they dont cover ...so its not a thing we do for the men.
