How do you get your children to eat healthier? My daughter is 10 and she seems to eat healthy.. and she exercises daily-- but she still has a chunky tummy- She is at the age where she is worried that she is chunky.. I tell her she is beautiful and not to worry about it. I don't comment on her weight- but sometimes I say watch your portions. Anyone else have a child who is a bit chunky? what do you recommend?

IS she in any organized sports or activities...maybe dancing lessons and if she is not a girly kind of girl...a friend of mine's daughter lost 20 pounds in 6 months after she started playing hockey. She was on a boy's team, had 2 practices and 2 games a week and not only did she lose weight, she became very self confident. Her grades went up and she joined other sports. Of course proper eating is important.

Does your daughter enjoying dancing or karate? My sister in law was a little chunky at 10 even though she participated in team sports. Once she joined up for dance and karate, her body took a whole different shape. If classes are to expensive maybe a TAEBO video or Learn how to dance video.

at 10 years old some kids have just still got baby fat but watching the amount she eats should help some times its best to go away from table not completely full. and watch those snacks

Make sure you have lots of healthy snacks around the house. Also, make sure she sees you making smart food choices. She will eat what you eat. If you don't keep junk food around the house, she won't be able to eat it. My 16 year old has always been heavier than she'd like. But she didn't make smart food choices. She'd exercise but then eat a bowl of ice cream. I finally realized it was me that was helping her gain weight because I kept all the junk food in the house. Good luck to you and your daughter.

at 10 years old they are all a little chunky or at that awkward stage. in a couple of years she will grow taller, and be slender. this is how it was with my daughter. if she still is chunky then, i would maybe watch more of her eating habits.

I try to keep healthy foods in the house and if it's just before meal times when my children decide they want a snack, I'll tell them they have to wait because we are eating soon. If I think they've had their fill of junk in a day, lol, then it's the healthy snacks I really push. Perhaps she just has a little tummy because she is going through puberty? Sometimes this is one of the side effects mother nature hands us, lol. When my daughter was 10, she started getting a bit of a belly too, but now that she is 12 and has started getting her period, the belly has disappeared.

I don't have the same problem but I know from my doctor that you have to make a special test for tummy gases. Maybe all this tummy is from gases that produces something she is eating. Like an allergic reaction. My son had that during the age of 1. He was examined and for a period of 1 month he stopped eating bread. Then he started eating again but with serious limitations.
