I listen to the radio when I am driving in the car. My husband does not like the radio, there are too many commercials in between songs. The reception isn't always the greatest either. Personally I like the variety of music. If you are lucky you find a station that has no repeats. My husband prefers his Ipod. The downside for me is that I have to listen to his favorite music, and it isn't always what I call good music.

Terrestrial radio is mostly pathetic in the U.S., but I listen to a few public/college stations. Fortunately they stream over the Web, so anyone anywhere can listen. I'm listing a few, in case you're interested in tuning in.
And yes, they play music that excites me!
wfuv.org, wxpn.org - both play 'Americana' music, which is like modern folk/singer-songwriter adult oriented music.
wfmu.org - free-form station with many many types of music, from garage rock to surf music, oddities, and country.
kcrw.com - an eclectic mix of music, with a lot of in-studio performances. You'll hear indie rock, alt country, electronica, R&B, etc.
Describing music is hard for me, so I'd suggest poking around their Web sites and scanning recent playlists.

Thank you. I used to love to music documentaries on the radio, but there don't seem to be so many these days on British radio, apart from digital radion...:o)

Radio 2 can be OK; but I never listen to 1 any more. I'd like there to be more music documentaries on 2. Oh wait, there's "The Herbie Hancock Story" on tomorrow night. I'll record that! perhaps I'm wrong after all...
