Well I can't say we bring a pie over but
we'll go over and see if there's anything
we can do for them. Within reason of course.

Let me think....Ha ha No.
I have moved so many times and I have yet had someone bring me any pies or casserole dish. I have had a nieghbor or two walk over and introduce themselves. But at the time, I could not figure out if they were introducing themselves because they were nosey and wanted to see who we were or if they were really being friendly.
I guess the reason I thought that way at the time is because if you really knew how many times I moved and no one else did it...it would make a person question the intentions. LOL
And when someone else is moving in...I want to go over and introduce myself too. But my partner just tells me that I am wanting to be nosey. So, I end up not going over to introduce myself. :(

yea, I usually keep an eye out on them just a little and then use my instincts whether or not I should speak. I wait till I catch them outside!
thanks

I actually had this happen to me at this one place i lived. :) There was this kind older couple that lived across the street and when i loved in the wife showed up at my door with a plate of brownies and said welcomes to the neighborhood lol...
I thought it was cute, not only that but she didn't realize that she already knew me. Her husband was the main bus driver in the small town i grew up in and i met her when i was a kid. She still didn't know til the day we moved out heh.. XP

That sort of thing never happens in my neighborhood, but we always end up meeting the new people if they have children because on the street we live on, everyone is usually outside playing with their kids. It's a great way to make new friends you have something in common with. Although I think it'd be kind of neat to move into an area and have someone bring you a homemade cake, LOL.

I like to introduce myself and my family to neighborhood but before making friendship with them i will study about them and their character and nature, If i feel they are good then i will introduce.

This summer my family and I moved from Connecticut to Tennessee. One of our neighbors made a plate of brownies for us, and our other neighbor offered to help unload our truck. I was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome we received. I didn't think people still did things like that.

yes we surely introduce ourselves at the correct time because we are good neighbours and its our duty to know the people around us.

When I moved into my last house the neighbour came in with a cake and introduced herself and told me if there was ever anything I needed to let her know. I've been living in this house for the last year and no one has ever introduced themselves. The house next door to me has been sold and I can't wait for the new owners to move in. I'll be straight in there with a pressie because I think it's a nice thing to do.

Well, I generally won't subject a new family to my cooking. They have enough to worry about with the move without me adding upset stomachs to the list ;). I will, however, go over and introduce myself and my kids. My husband walks the dogs twice a day, so he always meets everyone on his own.

Basically , its good manners on our part to go and introduce ourselves to our neighbours and make them feel comfortable in new place.
but it rarely occurs in urban areas where people are very busy with their own lifes and hardly have time to speak to their neighbours.
but in sub-urban and rural areas it happens.
