Rockstar Games, makers of Grand Theft Auto, has just introduced another controversial game: Bully. In it, the player must survive in a reform school full of violent bullies. Do games like Bully and Grand Theft Auto contribute to violent behavior? greetings. : )

No, they don't. Not unless the child already was inclined towards violence in the first place. Which would lead them to be *drawn* to violent games. A normal, healthy kid who plays a violent video game knows the difference between fantasy and reality, and that what happens in video games and on TV isn't applicable to real life. Violent people are drawn to violent outlets. A lot of the people speaking out against violent games have their cause and effect reversed.

i agree that games dont contribute to violence. often times, violent children learn those tendancies from parents. parents just dont wanna own up and take the easy way out by blaming gta and rockstar.

I'm sure they don't help, but I don't think a video game is going to turn an angel into a devil overnight. Video games aren't the only source of violence. It's all over the news and TV and what not. I don't think young kids should be playing games like Grand Theft Auto, but as long as they're old enough to understand that it's a game and that such behavior is not acceptable in real life I think it's okay.

The parents contribute more on childrns violence. Secondly only the environment will contribute too. Thirdly the shows. Actually in my opinion, playing games contributes a little to child's habit.

Well, I posted a question the other day, concerning the influence on bahavior of a TV show named Jack@ss. If this show can affect people's hbehavior, then my guess is that these violent games will affect it too. The other thing is TV is passive, video games are interactive, there a conscious decision is being made to be violent. I don't think it will affect everyone, but there are people who may just be on the edge and this could be a deciding factor.

not at all. parents and politicians love to blame games for things they have no other explainations for. if anything, games help decrease violence becuase it allows gamers to get out their aggresion in a safe way. i LOVE gta and bully. they let me do the things i wanna do, but i wont get in trouble for them.

I think they tip the ones that don't have the same social ladder other kids have. I agree that politicians often blame things that have very small affects instead of fixing the big problems.

I think they could somehow and I also think that it depends on the person that is playing the game. It could affect them or not, they really have to decide on that.
