After several years on Atkins (and now a few years OFF of Atkins), we are living the South Beach "lifestyle" and mostly enjoying it. Eight pounds down, a bunch more to go! I'm wondering what your favorite, or even NOT favorite, diet plans are? What worked for you? What didn't? Drawbacks, advantages? Things you don't know til you try it? Advertisments are great, but I find that real people who've experienced these plans are the best judges...would LOVE to hear responses! TIA!

My favorite diet is based off the Paleo Diet which is similar to Atkins but is based more on organic grass-fed meats, organic vegetables, and organic fruits, foregoing the abuse of hot dogs, sausages, and bacon that Atkin's promotes. Overall this has helped the small few that actually use it to it's fullest and it based more on evolutionary and biological/physiological principles moreso than any other diet besides the Zone Diet and Warrior Diet, which I incorporate from time to time with Paleo Diet as well. This is more of a lifestyle choice rather then just diet, and has very little drawbacks health wise but you do forego most popular grains and limit your carbohydrate intake to those mostly found in fruits and vegetables. Advantage wise, there are many in terms of longevity, internal functioning, energy, digestive health, so forth and so on, and has helped heal some people from some major illnesses. A very strong advocate of a similar diet approach is Arthur De Vany who is 78 I believe who has measured his internal body to be in his late 20's to early 30's. Another advocate with a modified Paleo approach (though under a different name) is of course Jack LaLanne. Both these diets do include whole food vitamins and minerals and of course forego almost all dairy consumption, though I believe eggs are included. Fat content in the paleo and zone diets are a bit more, though the fat in these meats have a better ratio of Omega 3's to Omega 6's (these are the good fat's). You can the books up at the borders, or barnes and noble or something like that to check it out.

I forgot to include it brings you down to the optimum weight level of your body, and of course these diets emphasize a good fitness program as well, incorporating compound exercises that stimulate many muscles of your body at a time. Though the diet's do not include great fitness information.
