Intel Pentium D 64bit processor or AMD athlon 64bit

Hey guys i'm planning to upgrade my computer.Right now i'm using a pentium 4 32bit processor.I just wanted to switch over to a 64bit processor.Which do you think is better? I'm actually kinda desperate b'cuz each seem to have their one views about it.
