WHy do people feel the need to run when it starts raining? Is there a real reason or are people just afraid of getting wet? Does running really keep you drier than if you were to walk? I personally love the rain so I tend to meander when it is raining. I don't mind getting wet, after all my clothes will dry. What about you. OD you run or walk in the rain and why?

People like to run in the rain for not getting into any trouble of sickness... and cold.. so they are running out from the rain...

It depends for me..if it's a warm rain, i don't always run, in fact before i had kids, I would love to play in the rain, I don't do that much now though because I usually have the baby in my arms, and he doesn't like to get wet much. I don't know why our instinct is to run when it is raining I suppose you probably do not get as wet though, seeing how you usually get indoors quicker than you would had you walked.

Ah, see that is the myth, that you get less wet if you run, but it is just a myth. I was watching an episode of MythBusters and they put this myth to the test. What they found out is that when you run, you may get out of the rain quicker but you actually end up getting more wet. They say it is because when you run, you are creating more flat surfaces for the rain to fall on. You know your legs and arms go up. So actually you tend to get less wet if you just walk. Interesting isn't it. Thanks for responding.

Yes, I believe you are right, in fact, after I typed it, I thought about that and wondered, because when you walk you aren't exposing as much of your body to the rain as you do when you run. I love mythbusters.. (:

I have been known to hurry through the rain in order to try to get less wet. LOL. I don't know if it works or not, other than that you get to your destination quicker, therefore you don't get as soaked. I personally run because if my glasses get wet and I dont have any way to dry them I will have a really hard time seeing. Plus, once my feet get wet I get cold realy easily and it's hard for me to feel warm agian until I can really warm my feet up in some really warm/hot water. So I really don't like being out in the rain unless I know that i can get somewhere warm right after. i do love the rain, though. The smell after it rains, I love that. And I would love to go out and dance around in the rain if I knew that it wouldn't matter that i were going to get wet, like if I had nowhere to go and it wasn't too cold so that my feet wouldn't be affected. LOL ^_^

Okay I saw an episdoe of MythBusters where they were trying to bust the myth that if you run in the rain you get less wet. Guess what, they BUsted the myth. They did very detailed tests and it turned out that they got wetter when they ran. They believe that is because when you run you make your arms and legs more horizontal therefore giving the rain more areas to soak into your body. So according to their tests you will get less wet if you simply walk in the rain. I thought that was really interesting.

Hey, this is a good question and got me thinking! Usually if it is just a drizzle I won't run yet but if it starts to rain heavily I probably would. Also it depends on whether I am heading for home or on my way to another place. If I am heading for home, I won't mind getting wet but if not I don't want to have to spend a few hours in my wet clothes and risk getting sick. Also, I don't like being in wet clothes, it's very uncomfortable.

Knowing my luck if I run in the rain I'd slip and fall over in the wet. People hate getting wet and damp, which means they feel uncomfortable and fear getting a cold or flue through getting wet. Running will obviously get you to your destination quicker and save a few raindrops hitting you! Depending on how fast you run and where you have to run to. Most of the time I go equipped with an umbrella, if I don't then I suffer the rain, or shelter in the nearest shop doorway or bus shelter.

People run in order to reach a place where they can be under shelter so that they may not get wet. See if you are going to office and it rains then naturally you will not like to be wet and save yourself because remaining in wet clothes the whole day is not a very pleasant task.

For me it's because it will absolutely ruin my hair, LOL! I hate when it gets soaked and the product and spray in it becomes stiff and flaky; that's enough to ruin the day, you know! Besides that, if I'm just out shopping or don't really care about the end result of my hair, I don't worry about it. Clothes will dry, and you do get just as wet whether you run or walk! I know that you live in Phoenix, so of course you love the rain- it's a commodity out there, isn't it? If you saw as much rain as we do on the east coast, it would get old really fast. Especially when it's cold out and raining, as it usually does almost daily in the spring and late fall here.

It really depends on where I was going. If I am going out i would walk quickly because I want to get there as soon as poss. But if I am on my way home I tend to just carry on walking as I was, I dont walk very fast lol I personally love the rain so dont really mind getting caught in it.

Well if it rains, I normally run because I don't want to get my hair wet...lol And that honest. If I have to be somewhere and I'm dressed for the ocassion, I will run in the rain...But if I'm equipted with the umbrella and raincoat, I will walk....lol

It depends how hard it is raining. I like to walk in the rain if it's light, I'm not worried about my makeup running or my hair frizzing. If it's pouring down I'm going to move faster to get out of it faster so I'm not soaked to the bone. Must be careful in down pours though running also risks slipping and falling.

I love the rain, too. In fact, that's why I hardly ever worry about carrying an umbrella, lol.I never run in the rain. The only thing I might try to do is protect any documents I have when it starts pouring suddenly. What I don't like at times is the dampness the rain leaves behind and of course, the best thing in the rainy season is the rainbow.Although I understand people not wanting to get wet,but I don't understand how can they resist the temptation!lol My immune defence is pretty good so I never had a problem with getting soaked for 2 even 3 hours at a stretch and anyway,I am a water sign. That should explain it if you are a believer of zodiac signs.
