Is this true about U2?

I have learned from a local television show that the name of this band "U2" is actually a contraction of the English phrase "you too" which for the band means the audience too is a part of them and can sing along with them in any of their song. Is this explanation true? Just wanna clarify.

Interesting. I always thought the name came from the British U2 spyplane from WWII. Need to check the fact sheets for that one. Got me curious now. Thanks for the info.

No i never heard of that one! Their earlier names were The Hype and Feedback. Then when they made it big they wanted a name that was more ambiguous and chose U2.
