Great teaching is a subversive activity. In a positive classroom environment great teaching operates at the interface of confusion and discomfort. To move students forward you must bring them to a point here they begin to feel discomfort with their conventional beliefs. Discomfort will eventually lead to an internal search for truth which is always triggered by a sense of confusion. This is the only path to intellectual growth.
