What are the first symptoms of diabetes?

My husband´s vision on one eye has diminished significantly and he´s always feeling drained, has got palpitations which come and go for no particular reason and has got problems concentrating. Could these be the first signs of diabetes?
His vision is ok in the morning, but deteriorates towards the afternoon. That´s why I think it isn´t a problem of his eyesight. Can anyone help?

If you feel it is Diabetes or something like this, you need to have him go to a Doctor and get it checked, but the Heart palpitations, and the Eyesight problems could be something else as well, but it sounds like the best bet would be to get him into a Doctor and have him evaluated and see what is wrong and go from there. No matter what the issue is, it is best to go find out and get it treated before it becomes something even worse. Wishing you the best.

Thank you for your answer. Yes, it´s best for him to go and see a Doctor and I´m not trying to obtain a diagnosis or opinion of what he might have here.
I just wondered if any of you knew what the usual first symptoms are. By no means am I trying to substitute a medical visit by asking questions on myLot.
That would be unforgivibly irresponsible.

I was diagnosed In November of 2005 with Diabetes, I did not think that I had any symptoms at the time but after I was diagnosed and was told all the symptoms I did realize I had a few such as being tired most of the time,and lack of energy where my two biggest ones. I have included some others that may be helpful to you.
Symptoms of Diabetes
Type I
constant thirst
severe fatigue
increased urination
increased appetite
weight loss
blurred vision
vomiting
Irritability
Type II
increased thirst
fatigue
frequent urination
slow-healing wounds
weight loss
blurred vision
increased infections
impotence
