Will visiting the Canadian side of Niagra Falls be a problem? Passports

From my understanding, there is going to be a law that requires someone entering the United States from Canada or Mexico to have a passport. Years ago, hubby took me and the older kids to see the Canadian side. He is from New York, not far from there. It was beautiful. We had to go through customs, but it wasn't a problem. My younger children have never been there. Aren't passports expensive? I can't imagine needing passports for all of us just so we can see the Canadian side for a couple of hours. Do you think this will effect very many people being able to visit the Canadian side of the Falls?

we have gone to canada every year sense 98. other then last year but we never had a problem getting through customs. a few years ago they said you had to have id and your birth certifacite to get through but now starting this year i do believe you have to have a pass port. i do think it will stop some from go there. it cost enough now to visit different places. they are good for awhile so for us its not to bad cuz we go every year about twice a year and stay for about a week at a time. i would not pay that to go just once every 10 years for a day. i do think its gonna be a problem for alot.
