Trade union is necessary?

In software industry, only who moves fastest would survive. Remember what happened to Netscape and what is happening to IE, from their market share's point of view. Windows Vista got delayed and many people saw security flaws in WinXP, IE, etc. If Microsoft do not resolve these issues FAST enough, do you think people would still want to go these in the future ? What do all of these things imply? the industry is going very fast and if you get slow due to any reason (like trade union actions, etc) others would overtake you. To these types of industries, I don't think trade unions would be a good answer. They have to think of some other alternative solutions. What do you think ?
