We are all sinners, knowingly or unknowingly. Jesus came to take away our sins and He sacrificed His life having been crucified. If we forgive, we do not die. No matter what our fellowmen do to us, even if committed many times, we should forgive so that God will also forgive us because if we do not forgive, God will not also forgive us.

We should always forgive; there should be no counting of mistakes or wrong committed by anybody. Anyway, God says that vengeance is for Him and He gives recompense. Let God make the judgment and punishment. In addition, it's very difficult to harbor anger in our hearts.

My father used to say, "To err is human and to forgive is divine". So it is my policy of life. To forgive and to forget. It keeps my life peaceful.

I don't think it literally means we have to forgive up to 490 times and therefore if someone offends us the 491st time it is ok not to forgive him. I believe it means as many times as we have to, we need to forgive. Actually it is difficult for us to forgive more than one time let alone much more than that. But forgiving someone frees us from bondage of hatred, resentment and bitterness and allows us to move on with our lives. I know, not easy.

It was really hard for me to understand this, without the true meaning of forgiveness. I now understand that forgiveness comes from the heart, not the mouth. It is so easy for us to say," ok, i forgive you" yet in the back our minds, everytime we see the person, we get angry. Well, this was me before i truly understood forgiveness. When we ask God to forgive us, we know it is forgotten. So, also, we need to forgive from the heart and that means to forget(put it in the past).
I believe it means we should forgive always.
