Exercise Goals

I set a goal that I think is too big for myself to start with. Should I stick with it or change the goal? I said I would get a reward if I could do one regular push up. I'm getting really discouraged. However, I have moved up from 20 knee push ups to 30. I'm thinking it might be better if my goal is to do 50 knee push ups and slowly work my way up to the one regular push up. Or maybe I am just giving up too easily???? lol

No, don't give up. Go for that one regular push up. Once you do that one, they'll get easier. You're doing good if you are up to 30 knee push ups without stopping. On a good day I can do about 20. I can actually do about 8 or 9 regular push ups as long as I haven't been exercising with weights earlier.

I think you are doing an amazing job. Keep doing the "knee ups" and you will be suprized in a matter of 3-6 weeks you will be able to do regular push ups Don't set yourself up for disappointment

If you are are having troubles with a regular push-up. Do your knee push ups the way you have been, then practice holding yourself in the up position of a regular pushing for 10 seconds, then 10 seconds, try to work up to holding yourself for a whole minute with your backs and legs right. Then after a week of this, Start from the bottom, and see how far you can raise yourself and hold it for 10, just before it gets to the point where it to hard.... if you push yourself a little farther eventually your body will become strong enough to do a full push-up... making an attempt each day.. I do not think you were giving it, but it can be discouraging, push-ups used to be very easy for me, but I am struggling at getting the strength back into my left arm after I broke my shoulder last year, was having problems with my tendons and ligments still, so did not have full range in my shoulder still don't, so I am working on getting full range back before I start doing other exercises for strength again. - DNatureofDTrain
