But when I do a web search, a million different recipe's show up. How do I know which one to choose. Can you help me with the traditional way of making it. Ive only ever made the Kraft packet ones and the kids and I would love to have an American meal one night.

This is a great one, just the way my Aunt used to make it. Baked Mac & Cheese 2 cups cooked elbow macaroni, rinsed in cold water. 1/2 cup butter 1/2 cup flour 1-1/2 cup milk 1-1/2 cup sour cream 1 tsp. salt 1/2 Tbsp. pepper 12 oz bar mild cheddar cheese, grated and divided. 1. Preheat over to 350 degrees F. 2. Put cooked, drained macaroni into a 3-quart casserole. 3. In a saucepan, melt butter and stir in flour. Gradually stir in milk and sour cream. Add salt and pepper. 4. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until sauce bubbles and thickens 5. Reserve 1 cup grated cheese for the top of the casserole. Toss the macaroni with the remaining cheese. 6. Pour cheese sauce over macaroni and mix thoroughly. Sprinkle with reserved cheese. 7. Bake for 1 hour or until bubbly and brown. 8. Serve immediately. Note: When I make this I have found I do not need to bake it for 1 full hour. This will depend on your oven...
