How old was your child when you taught him/her. Did he/she have a hard time with it? My daughter is 5, and I sat down to show her about a week ago, and only went throught it one time with her watching, and then helped her one time to do it... and she had it mastered that fast! She was going around tying all the shoes in the house like a little elf! She has always been mechanically inclined, though. When she was 1 1/2 years old, she used to use butter knives to open the battery back on her toys to change the batteries herself! She's too funny.

You are sooo lucky. My son knows how to tie his shoes, he refuses to do it. We taught him when he was 4 and he was somewhat interested. It is still a chore to get him to tie his shoes correctly almost 4 years later.

My daughter is 4 1/2, and I've been showing her off and on for the last several months, and she has seemingly no interest in learning. We recently bought her shoes with shoe laces, so she would have to learn (as she's going into kindergarten soon), and she started to cry! I've explained that even I didn't know how to tie my own shoe laces at first, but my mom and dad helped me. She seemed surprised that I, too, used to be clueless LOL.

God has gifted you with an intelligent child. Take good care of her and shower her with your loving guidance. She will grow up to be a good kid you can rely upon at all times.
My kids? I cannot remember the time when I taught them how to tie shoelaces. I just found them doing the thing themselves. I can remember they had been smart ones, too, and they always amaze me and make me really happy with their tricks. They are grown ups now - the eldest a pharmacist, the second a man who had 2 college degrees and 2 vocational courses but, the youngest left school in sixth grade because his leukemia had been at its worst levels. He has survived the ordeal though, now he is 18 going 19 this February.
