On the news they stated that Ebay is being used by criminals to sell stolen items. It was said that as Ebay is the largest auction site in the world this amounts to only a small fraction of the items sold. Do you think this will deter people from buying of Ebay? I myself buy many goods (I don't think any of the plants I bought from them are stolen LOL)

That isn't surprising and was questioned a few years ago. In fact local news has a number to call if you should receive something from Ebay you think may be stolen and they will check it out for you and attempt to trace it. LOL, ye right! Any way, it is a good way to get rid of the stuff. I reckon they get more for it from ebay than in pawn shops.

nope dont think people will stop shopping there. But they might do more investigating what they buy and who from. Only used ebay once bought a massage table for Daughter when she was taking massage therapy classes.
No dont think they are fencing plants lol

I don't doubt that some people are using/abusing eBay by auctioning off illegal goods. But I believe it will not det5er people from purchasing on eBay.I also question as to whether eBay should be held accountable as they are just the middle man .
I believe it would be EXTREMELY difficult to control whether something has been stolen and the costs for the checking would far-outweigh any potential savings .

No I don't think a fencing ring will hurt business on eBay much. However, if seller's keep on cutting each other's throats, there's likely not to be much good merchandise around in a short while. More and more the old line dealers are returning to the live auction and catalogue auction format.

Almost every live brick and mortar auction has had problems with fenced goods being brought to them. I've personally been in auction halls when the federal marshalls came in and took the goods. It's not a problem unique to eBay. It's more the nature of the auction business. (I should have put this in above. Sorry, guesss I got carried away with my current peeve against eBay LOL)

This just seems to be a rumour, as I have bought a number of products and most of them seem to be new and come directly from the company, either some dropshipper or some wholesale supplier. That's why they are offered at cheap prices and not because they are stolen!!

No it's not a rumor. I saw the CEO of EBay being interviewed on Tv who admits it is possible but only minute persent of good could be stolen. They have no way of checking.
