Discouraged. Which is better, more posts or more responses?

I am rapidly becoming discouraged with mylot. Although making money isn't my priority reason for being on myLot, it is a nice bonus for my time. I spend about the same amount of time daily on myLot. Seems no matter what I do, my earnings won't increase, and they have actually decreased over the past two days. Is it better to post more or respond more? I do go back and rate responses and choose a best response (unless there are only 1-2 responses, in which case I keep waiting for more responses!) Sadly, many of my posts do not get ANY responses. I try to have thoughtful posts yet I see mundane posts asking which of XXXX do you like best getting 100's of responses! I am about to throw in the towel. Help!

I feel that way sometimes to; but I really love myLot and the great friends I have made on here. As for earnings, I have found that I earn more by responding to discussions rather than starting them. I usually only start a discussion when I think it will have a response or feel that it is timely. It is hard to judge the responses of others though, so sometimes you get it wrong, lol. There are many meaningless discussions, I agree; you just have to weed through them to find the ones that interest you and that you can give a good reply to. Don't throw in the towel just yet, keep plugging away. You can do it!

Thanks creative, I will take a few days and do more responses rather than starting new discussions to see what that does to my earnings. I'm picking up my chin and lip, I will prevail! Thanks again.

Good. I am glad. I don't like to see good posters get discouraged. It makes me sad.

Please do not throw in the towel, as you would be greatly missed my dear. Not only by me, but other members I'm sure. I think that posting brings in a tiny bit more than responses. But, the really money determined by MyLot, is the discoussions going back and forth on that question. Try to keep going back to your statements and posts with people to get a conversation back and forth. Take a break from MyLot one day. Then come back to it clear minded and not unhappy. Okay dear? Also posts that are not too long, get more responses, as most people on here do not seem to want to read alot. So usually a 3 liner is good. Blessings as usual, M&M

I replie to other peoples discussions more than i create my own and I do not know if i would make more otherwise. I also rate all my discussions and hand out a best response.. I think starting one or two every day and then responding to others is the way to go =)

That is exactly what I am going to try for a few days. I already rate all my discussions. There are some that I haven't posted a 'best response' to as yet, because I was waiting for some more responses. How long do you wait. Some of the discussions are quite old now. I suppose I should go ahead and rate a best response, even if it is a trivial answer?

Hoping you are doing better, the Notify On, feature really helps. I rarely look for topics to answer now that all my friends are Notify On. Also with 3 and 4 line reponses you should see a good increase in the earnings bases on the thought out responded quality. Your discussions could be limited to about 3 or so a day and that will become more manageable for you to go back and respond to those who respond to you. That is the discussion that this site looks for. Again, I hope things are better for you, keep on trying!!

Thanks willow, seems I worried more about posting topics and got ahead of myself. I have been so bogged that it has been impossible to go back and answer to all of the responders. I do go back and rate those whose responses were full of merit and chose a best response. I will slow down on posting new topics and concentrate more on responding for a while. I really appreciate your input!

YOu can earn more with send comments to other's discussions. It worth to open a discussion if you receive many-many comments. I switched the notification on my friendlist, so I see immediatelly if you open a discussion. And I send responds for what I can. But I see, that you open too many topics.

Thank you for your help! I will keep that in mind. Perhaps I am opening too many topics. I will take a few days and post more responses and see what happens. I need to switch on the thing you describe on my friends also. Thanks again!

I've just joined the site, so I don't have a whole lot to contribute, but hopefully this response will help out your post somehow. Maybe by keeping track of this topic, we'll both learn something.

I am also in a similar situation . My finding is that serious posts don't get responses . This is like a serious film . People don't like to read or serious things ,because they are already burdened with their own stress and tensions . Since , I cannot send light hearted posts , I find responding more useful .

You only get credited for your post when someone, just one person answers it. You do not get 50 points for 50 answers to a question. You get one and only one. It is better to answer as many questions as you can so that you have a higher chance of being chosen for a best answer as that skyrockets your earnings. For instance, The other day I posted 100 answers and made exactly 100 cents. The next day I only did about 20, received two best answers and I received about $2 the next day.

OH MY GOODNESS! I didn't realize it was that beneficial. I assumed it was good to get a 'best response' but didn't think it would increase earnings that much! That certainly underlines the importance of quality responses. Thanks!

I tried both posting as well as responding but lately i have found responding more easy and fruitful. I think atleast you are sure of getting some minimum amount for each response. For discussions i am still not sure but will not give up so easily.

Creating new discussions without receiveng any resposes is one of the frustrating part of mylot. I like mylot and I am enjoying staying here wether I earn a lot or less although I still look forward to earn more. Before, I used to generate a lot of discusions at least two new threads per day but I got frustrated to after waiting for a long time and then receive no response at all so now I'm concentrating on responses.

First an foremost let me say this, Please don't leave...lol You are one of my best responders and I love your topics. I know what you mean about the money.. Then I read sksouth's response and I don't know how much you are making but I am in the 1.25 to 2.00 a day range. I don't think anyone really knows which is best, starting or responding. I guess it's all tied into Mylots Mysterious Algorithm. I have quite a few discussions with no responses. I wish I knew too. I can't even manage to get my reputation rating back up to 10, I don't know what the heck happened there !! Try to hang in there, because you will be sadly missed by many. Now I'm off to check out Oldbuddy's profile again...I visit him frequently..lol So don't throw in the towel just yet, wrap it around your head, close your eyes and pretend for a few minutes you are at the Mylot Spa.

Thanks so very much mari. I love your posts and discussions too! Yours are the first I look for daily! Sounds like we are making the same per day, so perhaps I should quit my belly-aching (as my grandma used to say). Well, I'm off to the sauna! *wink*

I understand your frustration. I found that when I started to add friends like crazy, I started to get lots of responses to my discussions. It also made my daily posting much easier because all I had to do was check my email for interesting discussions to respond to.

How exactly do you add friends, I wonder? You don't go around just inviting anybody to become your friend, do you? Is it wise to ask friends whose comments you like, or those who post a lot? I have ONE friend, who asked me, BTW... I am not very good at this (yet)

OH, I hadn't thought of that angle. I do have some friends but had started being more picky in fear that I wouldn't be able to keep up with responses. But, at this point I will try anything!

I have been reading many many posts about how to make more money on MyLot. The conclusion I believe is that is no strict system. I figure MyLot is like the stock market somedays it is up and somedays it is down. But there is always a good converstation to be had.

I will help you one, by replying to this post, and two by answering the real question lol. Really, you should try to make topics of what people are interested in, and I dont mean that in a bad sense or encouraging you to go and spam the board as mylot will suspend your account or you will earn even less. The reason your money is going down is because of the fact that nobody is responding to the responses and mylot is removing them, hence removing the money you earned for them. That is why it is important to get posts on your discussion first. Second you should be posting replys on others, so really it is both, and posting pictures and having keywords also optimize your chances of earning more.

I seem to have a difficult time finding discussions worthy of my time to respond to lately. I used to have no problem and now I waste so much time looking for something meaningful to respond to. I even try going back through my friends posts and looking for something to respond to or a new interest to join. I don't think they should be able to take away earnings unless you are one of the cheaters who steal discussions or responses. I know that you don't do that and neither do I. So why did yours and my earnings go down in the last couple days. I could have sworn I had .50 or so more on Monday.

At least you have responded about 593 times but i have responded only 39 times and i am getting bore of mylot. I didn't find it interesting at all except only few topics all are irrelavent. I want that the disussion should be fruitful but people here only repond to increase there money but not to put some valuable thoughts which could help others. I posted only 1 topic on mylot but still no responses of that topic. I think that topic is bit serious. I do not visit mylot regularly. I visit once in a week but didn't find anything relavent here.

Yea I kno what you mean I use it only because when I am bored, I get a sense for money. And when I cannot find a reasonable way of aquiring it, I feel better by knowing I am earning atleast something at the time being.

for me it's better to respond more. i've never had the problem with decreased earnings. i respond a lot more than i post. i'll add you as a friend so i can see your posts and hopefully respond to some. don't give up.. if you add more friends to you list you'll get more responses. that has helped me a lot.

My earnings are not adding up as fast as I think they should either. Seems there is no way to predict what I am going to earn. I love your discussions but I am new. Since we became friends, I have tried to comment on all your discussions but I will try to do better.

This is more a response to your responses, since I could see that you have already got all the good advise needed. I did also benefit a lot from this discussion, as I gather now that it is more important to respond to discussions. Thanks for starting this discussion.

Personally, i think more responses are better, at least you save time by not thinking of new topics to be discussed, and you just site your point of views, im having difficulty in posting discussions since no one seems to like the topics that ive posted and it takes me a long time to think of a topic that anyone could be interested in. I just get a couple of responses 5 to the most and thats it- and i still have many unresolved discussions, which pains me to look at =( and sometimes what hurts the most is when they delete your discussion or the discussion that you have responded to without any warning or whatsoever- so i suggest respond more than make discussions.
