I prefer the organically grown food. Why? Because it's grown naturally without pesticides sprayed on them, and the fertilizers used are natural and not chemical based. Back in the 50's there used to be a chemical called DDT that farmers used on their crops to keep the weeds out of their fields. It was proclaimed to be safe to use. Then many years later it was found to have undisputedly caused cancer and removed off of the marketplace. There are many other chemicals that are used in food production that have been deemed unsafe to use since then. Just because the government agencies say a chemical is safe (now) doesn't mean that new studies done in the future will find them harmful to us. I eat organically grown beef. The farmers that keep my fields cultivated choose to grow their animals that way. They use no steroids in the production of their beef animals, and they use no antibiotics. If an animal needs an antibiotic, then that beef steer cannot be processed for a long time until that chemical is totally out of it's body. Why the concern? Well, it's been proven that the steroids, and other medicines, get into the beef that we eat, and it is passed through to us. I choose not to eat animals that have been given growth hormones, etc, to make them grow faster. I think one of the reasons that we have so many cancers and other health problems today is due to foods that have been chemically enhanced. I will choose natural products over those any day. As far as the budget goes, I think it's worth it in the long run. I'd rather pay for something healthy now than pay for ill health later. I grow my own vegetables, organically, for my own table when I can.

Organic foods nowadays are quite expensive. I tried being on a diet of organic rice, but I didn't like it very much. You know, those brown rice w/c still has husks in it. It tasted like corn & I really get my apetite lost because of it.

I try to buy organic whenever I can. I think it's great that there are so many organic options on the market now that have become much more mainstream. I feel better eating organic for my own health and also knowing there's less impact on the environment and less chemicals in our air and water supply in the organic food production.

There is now an unstoppable worldwide trend to go to the original way of farming. Coupled with new discoveries and understanding on organic agriculture, there are now matured technologies available for the farmers/growers to use to successfully grow organic produce. For now, a premium is being paid for the organic produce. Hopefully, the time is coming when it could be at par with those of the conventional type. People swear of the big difference in eating organic products. We don't have to get all the scientific basis to be benefited in eating these organic products. But I always advise people to look for CERTIFIED organic products from a reliable certifying body like IFOAM. Just look in the internet for more ideas on this matter.
