"In order to prevent spam, only users with a rating greater than 500 are allowed to paste. If your rating is greater than 500 and you still cannot paste logout and sign back again". I always encounter it whenever I try to copy and paste some phrase that I search in Internet. What makes users with 500 above rating more special that those who have not to acquire such advantage? Do you think its fair?

We have the same sentiment. That's why I think Mylot should give an exemption regarding this rule especially when what we are copying is a link of a website supporting what we are posting.

It takes a long time to reach 500 for some people so I would have to say it is a little unfair. I know it is supposed to discourage people from copying and pasting, and it has somewhat succeeded in this area. However, the cheaters are finding a way around it, and only to-day, I saw one of my responses copied. Not only was it copied, but it was posted right under my own response. I think it is unfair that honest people should have to suffer because of the cheaters.

You hit it Madam, having 500 points above is not a guarantee that a certain user will not spam. So if the management let those 500 pointers do pasting, they also should let below 500 pointers to do the same. If their reason is to encourage everyone to hit 500 points, we all know it will take time and devotion which may compromise other more important work in our daily routine. The truth is cheater will be cheater whether its 500 below or 500 above pointers. So imposing these rule for that reason is not valid, it doesn't follow.

While it seems like a lofty goal I think it is fair. This all changed when people were copying and pasting other people's answers and it was happening quite often. Also people were just copying and pasting - well plagiarizing off of the Internet which isn't cool either, so mylot wanted people to prove themselves first by writing original content the first 500 times. Now, the downside is when good people write this looong post and it winds up not going through due to a server glitch or a censored word. If you copy your work before you save it won't matter because you can't paste it back in. That's a pain but this is what happens when a few people ruin things for the rest of us.

You have a point there but my problem is whenever I try to copy the URL of the website that will support my post, sometimes I end up with invalid links cause some characters are confusing like number 0 and letter O. By the way thanks for the comments.

No, I don't think it's fair. There's times when I would like to insert a web page, or a quote from an article or something. Makes it very dificult.

That's same happening in me. Whenever I research for a good topic in Internet and try to paste its URL, I always get that error message. The problem is when I manually type the URL sometimes there are characters that is confusing like number "0" and letter "O", I cannot create a valid link.

very good issue raused. i had also the same question on my mind. i don't think by doing so we always able to prevent scam. sometimes we really need to paste some exact quotation from a topic or from a great person's speech and that really increase the weight of your reply. if you do some research and found something and want to use that for your reply with proper quotation then that is the scam i believe. this also not proved that the user with 500 rating can not do scam! i guess there is a more chance of taking help of copy-paste for those users who crossed 500 rating, so they can just make their life easy. So i don't think it is fair not to allow users when their rating is under 500.

The same sentiment I have said. When we paste something it doesn't mean we spam. Its about how we use it like what you explain. In my case I often got irritated because I used to paste the links of the website that supports my article and sometimes those links in not practical to manually type and you know the reason. Thank for your comments before I forgot.

Yes. They do have lots of advantages. They can even add pictures to their discussions. Copy and paste their answers. It's not really right for us newbies or us members with a rating of less than 500 posts. But I don't personally think it's unfair since they have went through this too. Right? Everyone started in mylot with zero(0) rates/numbers to their names. So i think if they have went to all this, then we sure can too. do we? :) yes we will! gudluck

Some of this 500 above rating users started when this rule was not yet impose by administration of Mylot. So I think some of them also use cut and paste even when they rating was not 500 above. I only got irritated because I can,t paste the URL of the website that support my post or discussion. Thanks for your comment by the way.

Did you copy and paste, or have to type all of the warning message yourself? I don't understand what the rating means. There's a rating star beside my name, but it's only 1-10. 500?! Anyway, I think it's fair. It's a very useful measure against spammers. But it can be quite annoying when you want to quote something...
