in todays denmark,norway,and sweden there lived a people called the norseman.they were farmers,fishermen and traders.norsemen who sailed the seas were called vikings,the most magnificent seamen the world has ever known.the viking ships could sail the roughest seas making long voyages to land warriors on unkind shores.their ships were so important to them that when a viking leader died he was buried in his ship together with his possessions such as gold jewels,even with his hounds and horses.the vikings enjoyed fighting and adventure.in the 8th century they began raiding the britih isles.some vikings settled in france and became known as normans.
