I feel the same way, but I also feel like that s what makes Dr. Phil worth watching. Shock factor is the biggest thing in t.v. right now. Just like all the reality shows everyone gets involved with watching, they want to watch because they love the "reality" of it. When in reality we all know they script it all.
I don't really know why I got hooked on Dr. Phil, all I know is Dr. Phil is real about everything, and he doesn't beat around the bush about real issues. Not like maury or sally or anyone else does.

Dr. Phil has admitted that he cannot solve problems in an 8 minute segment. And if he only had one guest on per show (which he has been known to do) he could not solve their problems in an hour either. The point is to not just to help people that come on the show, but the people who are watching as well. When he has more than one person on they all have something in common. They can learn from each other. When you see yourself in someone else, you can see how stupid you look where before you might not have been able to see it in yourself.
Dr. Phil tells it like it is. And he is not the only person delivering lines that have what you call shock value. Some of his guests have had some doozy things to say shocking Dr. Phil himself.
You don't like him? You don't believe him? Don't watch him.

No I don't and as I was invited to be on his show. I know he genuinely care about people and of course he is not going to have such a great TV show if he only had boring people with boring problems as guests.

I love Dr. Phil!! I think that he offers a lot of help to some people. I also think he tries to make some people figure out their problems on their own (kind of like a therapist does) by giving them suggestions. I think on the whole though, he does a lot of good for a lot of people. I think he has some great advice!! One of my favorite quotes of his...."I want you to get excited about your life!!" :-)

i think he gives them alot more help then they show on tv. i think he just hits the high points for tv and then the whole discussion happens behind the scenes. if they showed him going into full detail and really helping the people out a lot of people would get bored and turn the channel.

I think part of that is true. That's why I watch the show so much and I'm sure millions of others! I tivo his show everyday! But I have seen on so many shows that he offers them help at the end of the show. Hopefully it's true!

I think you are right when you say "lately". I think it was not so much shock value when the show first started. Watch the different ways he handles guests. Sometimes they just need a kick in the pants, but sometimes I feel like he's playing more to the audience when a different approch would be more appropriate to help his guest. Don't get me wrong, I still think its a great show. And I love the Dr. Phil House this season. What an idea.
