As I love drinking milk I came across this following which I thought I would share as I have been told it would make you fat and had no real benefits. As we became older, many of us shucked the idea of drinking milk either because we felt we were too "grown" to have to drink milk, or because we had become conscious of our figures and felt milk would have a detrimental effect on that part of us. In lieu of milk, we switched to other dairy products or vitamins in order to still receive the correct intake of Vitamin D and Calcium. Strangely, the analogy here is that if we went through that much trouble to still receive the benefits of milk, we knew that there was something in milk that our bodies were able to utilize. According to an article published on the Internet by the Newer Knowledge of Milk, there are several benefits of milk: the ability to prevent osteoporosis, hyper tension, and colon cancer. And most importantly, these benefits are derived from an intake of fluid milk, not simply vitamins or other sources. Drinking milk also helps reduce the incidence of tooth decay. There is no evidence to support the theory that drinking chocolate milk aids in tooth decay, and as a result, allowing children to drink chocolate milk increases their consumption of milk. One of the major contributing factors to many people shucking the benefits of milk for a substitute source is the belief that drinking milk will cause them to gain weight. There is no evidence that drinking the required servings of dairy products such as milk contribute to a person being overweight. Clearly lactose intolerant individuals need to supplement with a non-dairy product. But for everyone else, we should shy away from drinking milk. We did it when we were 5, and we can definitely do it when we are 80. The benefits of drinking milk stay the same

Well my diet of cookies and milk it only half wrong? LOL We drink milk with every meal here, or water. Soft drinks and juice is a snack item. I am trying to teach my kids better eating habbits then I as taught and maybe, just maybe they won't have to deal with a wieght problem I have always had. To be honest though I don't think whole milk is as good for you as 2% because I am one of those, that beleive it will cause you to gain weight. I don't know why, but I was sure I heard that from a Doctor ones.

Thank you for taking the time to share all that information. I drink fat free milk every evening warmed, then go to bed. When I have cereal, I drink it then too.

I have drank milk for over 50 years. Usually, when I put it on my morning cereal. I hardly drink it at others times. I have never had a broken bone and have had few cavities. Was it because of milk? I don't know, but it likely has given me some good health over the years. I still like chocolate milk once in awile. I don't eat much cheese, but I do like eggs. I think in moderation, these products are relatively healthy.

I'm lactose intolerant, so it's soy milk for me. I do miss cheese and ice cream though.

there's always that back and forth with milk, as well as other foods. some people say its unhealthy, some people say its healthy. some people say it makes you fat, others say it can help you lose weight. i dont think milk is the sole reason for making you fat. im sure if you drink a lot of milk as well as other fatty foods, you will end up food. but its all about having the right combination of food and exercise. i dont think its bad to drink milk, but drink it in moderation. dont drink 10 glasses a day! i think it also depends on what kind of milk you're drinking. the effects of whole milk and skim milk will be different.

I think milk is without any doubts, an essential food and should be a part of everyone's diet. Yes, I do know that it makes you fat but at the same time, it provides a lot of energy, it helps specially in growing years. That is why its very benefitial for people of teen age and of the growing ages. I think 40+ people dont need to drink it regularly but they should also have intakes of milk once in a little while. As for babies, children or young people, its advantageous.

Good post. I was never a good milk drinker...just didn't like it. I've read recently though that milk aids in weight loss. Everyone should have a certain amount of calcium in the diet and those that included a certain amount of calcium each day lost weight faster than others.

i hate milk and so do my kids but i drink a lolot of tea with milk in it . that includes half a pint a day . i dont know if it is enough but i know you do benefit from calcium in your diet in later years.drink skimmed milk and you will gain no weight, it has the same amount of calcium and believe me you get so used too it you will never go back to full fat milk.

Hi Whiteheater39, for me milk is all right eventhough we have been grown up accordingly. I do myself drink milk every night. I am 24 now and still happy with it though. So Appreantly it is not a big deal. I have learnt about the Milk and will be able to give you a good facts about the milk. 1. Milk can prevent us from becoming fat only in the tummy. I do not know how to call it in english. Sorry if you do not understand. 2. Milk make your body looks fitter and tighter. No loose fat or something like that. 3. It is also good for your bones. 4. Milk could also fit your need on some vitamins over your body. 5. Many other advantageous over the milk. You can refer to some books and I think it is all right. I think you have to consider is, if you drink milk with sugar, you have to control your sugar capacity once you drink your milk. Any else, Milk is the best drink for me for our lives. Hope you have no worries at all now.
