ok good question.. had the same thoughts my self and after a little exploring and experimenting found that you can upload photos/ pictures when you start the discussion in a given interest or area. Also keep in mine you interest profile and tag words also get tied to the pictures and discussions if you choose the same key tags..

you can't until you reach at least 500 for posting discussions but you can put photos in your album!

You have to reach 500 posts before you can upload images with your replies.
