I was diagnosed with chiari a month ago I went to a surgeon and he said the operation is to risky. So I guess I will live with this.My family doctor says that is not what is causing my pain that it is Fibermyolgia. What would you think if you were in this position?

First of all, Chiari is not a tumor. Second of all, your pain is most definitely caused by Chiari. There are a LOT of people with Chiari that have been misdiagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I myself am one of them. I have a deviant form of Chiari with no hindbrain herniation, but I do have CSF flow blockage posteriorly. I also have a 5 year old son with a herniation of over 10 mm and complete CSF flow blockage posteriorly and partial blockage anteriorly. He is going to the Neurosurgeon on the 21st of this month. He is a definite surgery candidate but has other medical issues we are trying to deal with first. I myself am not a surgical candidate but have found huge pain relief using Diamox. I have actually weaned myself off it for the last 6 months but will be going back on it the next time I see my physician. Diamox is something that works great for awhile and then stops working and you have to take a break from it, then when you restart it, it works great again. Please contact me if you have any questions. I know that Chiari is kinda scary. But there is a HUGE support group out there and there are WONDERFUL doctors. Any doctor that is telling you that surgery is too risky is either not experienced in Chiari surgery, or sees something on top of the Chiari on your MRI.

I don't know much about it but sounds like duskee does. I would be scared but I would also check with some other doctors who might no more. I will keep you in my prayers, God bless:)
