Beef and Chicken and Veggies, Oh My! - Why I Love Donburi

I am a great fan of bento lunches, and have been for years now. Ever since my days in Seattle where I was introduced to the concept - I took to it immediately. Perhaps I'm easily impressed. Anyway, one of the simplest things for a benta box is donburi, rice with stuff on it! Simple, delicious and easy to make. Sometimes, the simplest meals are the greatest. Any form of meat, any form of veggies, cooked and set on a bed of rice. What could be easier? I love lamb donburi, white rice with tender strips of lamb and a light curry sauce. It's healthy, it's filling, and it fits wonderfully in my bento box. Or did, before the bento box had a horrible accident in the dishwasher. Anyone know where I can find a new one?

I have never heard of that my friend, have you tried googling it for your city to see if they have it?? I know when I moved from Texas I was a huge fan of Kolache and could not find another place that sold them except here in Texas but I was able to find a receipe to make them, perhaps you can do the same.

The bento box? It's a Japanese lunch box, with neat little compartments for all your food. I love them. I'll probably just order one from Ebay. :D As for the Donburi, I do make that. I've been thinking of making some for lunch tomorrow! The lamb tikka masalla is a bit more difficult - I have the masalla mix, but finding the right cut of lamb is very hard.

Well, honestly, if you can be a little patient, I might be able to find one around for you since I'm still in the greater Seattle area. If it sounds good, then email me and I'll see what I can do.

Oh wow, thank you. I'm still kicking myself for never just going down to Uwajimaya's and getting one myself when I was living in Seattle. I got a saki set and a sushi service set, at least.

Ahh bento box, i am one of those people who says they wont like something before they try it, this happens to be one of those things (along with sushi and onigiri) unfortunatly. i have always been intrigued by japanese food but my very limited palette, has me in somewhat of a tight spot I intend to try these things eventually, but working up the courage will take time ;)

I also love bentos! A good resource other than ebay is: http://www.jlist.com or http://www.jbox.com Also, I've found bentos at toy stores that sell Sanrio products (Hello Kitty, Badzmaru, etc).
