What is a Topo map? It is a map of the geography. These maps are very useful and you can compare new updates of the geography of your current erra, VS, the old topo maps from maybe a hundred years ago. These maps can usually be found at your local library. :) What do old maps reveal. Where houses once stood. Where old park, dumps, etc, were once located! :) These are also relavent when trying to locate old forts battlefields etc. :) they are essential for treasure hunting Success! krissy

Wow! I didn't know that you could find the old ones at the library. I deal with new topo maps all the time in my job. Topomaps today are very wild in what they can do. I was able to see the lounge chairs in my backyard using the satellite maps. One day I am going to the library just to look at these old maps.

you can also get old trail maps that connected towns and see the old homesteads you may be seeking

So glad that you shared this. The library is so full of useful information and often computers in this day and age. Have seen these kinds of maps at the library and like to view the surroundings as they once were since now we are so crowded. Thanks for sharing this in this discussion for us to find!!

yes topographical maps help many people with many things. I think its great looking at topographical maps from say two centuries ago and comparing it with now. Its an education to see how man has changed the landscape he lives in. Sometimes these changes are profound, such as mining developments, sometimes they are much more subtle, but each is fascinating in its own way

The old topo maps also let you see how the local community has changed and where the old centers were
