My cat sheds alot year round.Any knowledge or advise on this?

My cat is long haired and she sheds a lot! There is a product at Petsmart that is called Shed Relief you put it on their food, it reduces excessive non-seasonal shedding. Quality of food can also add to the problem. We use a high quality cat food and shed relief and she is shedding much less than she used to.

Both of our cats shed year round. One more than th eother because he has a really thick coat. I don't think it is odd for them to do that. It is just hair. Think about it people shed hair all year round too, it is just worse during some seaons. If you cat has a thick coat they are more prone to shedding. What can help is daily brushing. If you cat is an indoor cat, switch to a high quality in door cat food that is a formula that reduces shedding. I wouldn't change the cats food unless you really have to do it since cats stomach are sensitive. I wouldn't be very concerned unless you cat has major hairloss to the point of being bald or balding, then I would go to the Vet ASAP. Since your cat needs yearly visits to the Vet (or if you go before that due to illness) just bring it up, but I am fairly sure you have nothing to worry about.

Put more oil in your cats diet to combat the dry skin. oil of primrose or safflower oil should do the trick.

You can try a coat of varnish...8-) Just kidding. The Cat's diet more than anything is probably to blame but your vet would be the first place to go for answers.

It could be nothing or something.I'd check with your vet because there could be a possibility of an allergy to food or something else in the home. Just check to be sure.

My cats shed a lot also all year long. I read somewhere that if they are indoor cats they tend to do that. I don't know how true it is but I take my cats to the vet regularly and they are okay. Next time you're at the vet bring this to his attention and see what he/she has to say about it.
