Does public breastfeeding bother you?

With recent debate about whether or not breastfeeding in public is 'couth', I was wondering what other people, especially parents, had to say on the issue. I myself am for discretion while in public, but secretly feel proud when a woman just pops it out there. It's only natural. If public breastfeeding disturbs you, could you explain to me what it is that you find bothersome or disgusting?

I totally agree! My son is starting to dislike a cover over his head (Can you blame him? I don't like to eat in the dark either), so we are learning to nurse w/o a covering. I don't think it's necessary for a woman to have it all hanging out for the world to see, but if it happens it happens. As long as she is nursing, ya know?

I nurse my son in public all of the time. When I'm over at someone's house, I usually find a quiet room to nurse, because I don't want to make them uncomfortable, although I'm sure none of my friends really care. But when I'm out in public, I'll usually have my hubby sit in the way where if someone was walking by they wouldn't be accidently flashed. I don' tthink it's fair to the mother or the child to expect them to wait or go sit in a stall and nurse... My oldest wouldn't do the whole cover thing either and my youngest is getting to the point where he won't either.

Being a Mom i would say that Feeding my baby is my first priority and it does not bother me at all if i have to feed him in a public place,i sit in such a manner that i do not attract attention, and my baby is covered while i am feeding him,so rarely does anyone notice.

I agree totally, it's only natural for a woman to nurse her child and I've never seen any " No Public Nursing" anywhere. I never use public restrooms even at the nicest restaurants they are just too gross.

I don't have kids, but I don't have any problems with mothers nursing their babies in public. After all, they are the ones who have to bear a brest in front of strangers, all the rest of us have to do is avert our eyes if we are "offended"; who's in the more uncomfortable position, really? I would rather have her nurse the child than having it cry because it is hungry, that's for sure.; and no one should have to go nurse in a restroom (I wouldn't eat in one!).

For myself I don't do it in public just because that's the type of person I am.. but for those that do-- it doesn't bother me. It's a completely natural thing to do & I'm not sure why people think it's distgusting.. it's nourishment to our children. I actually had to do it in a mall on one of those benches.. and I had a blanket over me and was trying to be as discrete as I could be... but, people just stared at me and kept turning around and looking. I'm like-- "Yes, I am nursing my child.. were you wanting to get a closer look?" People are so funny. I just think anything out of the norm-- people can't handle.

it only bothers me when I'm eating and they aren't trying to hide it. I'm a mother myself and I just think you could cover it up, esp. when people are eating.
