Hello! Just wondering if any of you have a hyper child? my son, who will be 5 tomorrow is very hyper. he's not diagnosed or anything. part of me just thinks it is a "boy thing" and a "5 yr old thing", but some people tell me he is overly hyper. How do you tell? My husband is really against any kind of medication so I know if that is suggested, he will freak out! He's such a good boy..so sweet and wonderful. BUT...boy can he drive me nuts. LOL Any helps will be appreciated

that is always a hard thing to deal with. When my son was 5 (now 11) we were told to have him tested. We put it off for almost 2 years and them finally did it. He was diagnosed with ADHD and put on meds. You could really tell a BIG difference, but he was still the same little boy, just not as hyper. He started jr. high this year, and we have taken him off one of his pills. now we are slowly taking him off the other. I know it was the best thing i ever did. I dont think he would have made it this far with out it.

Thank you for the insight. I just know that my husband will have a fit. He has already said that his son doesn't need meds..he's just a little boy. I tend to agree a lot of the time, but sometimes i wonder. my husband is just SOOO against medication. I don't know...I really don't want my son to be put on a pill to control himself, but it may come to that. he's not near as bad as some kids in his class are, though. anyhow, thanks so much for the insight.

trust me, i understand all to well. we put it off for almost 2 years for the same reasons. And there was no way i wanted my son on something to zone him out. We did read about all the meds out there, the side affects and everything. I do have some info that might help you out that someone sent me. If you would like it, let me know.

My son was "over-active" from day one. I remember when I was pregnant with him, stopping in the middle of the parking lot, and telling him to stop moving so much! (: He still is a very active boy, always running everywhere. He started to do everything physical quite early, he was walking at 8 months, running by 10 months.. and outruns all of his friends (even the older boys). In fact, we'll take him to the park, and his favorite thing to do is run around the park, in circles.. the entire time, I guess it's his way of expelling some of that energy. Good luck with your active one, if it's any consolation, it problably means he will be active all of his life.

thank you for taking the time to post. I don't worry too much about it until people start talking to me about how hyper he is. My mom thinks he's very overactive. The teacher said something the other day. My husband just thinks he's a little boy. I hate to even mess with getting him tested becuase if he's not hyper, I feel like the doc will think I WANT something to be wrong and if he IS ADHD, then I will feel obligated to put him on meds which I DO NOT want to do. Neither does my husband. I, too, take my son to the park after school and on the weekends to run off some energy--when the weather lets me. :)

My son is eight and he's very hyper. I'm like you and tend to think it's a boy thing. There's no way I'd ever medicate him though if he were to be diagnosed with anything. I always try to encourage him to go outside and play some type of sport to blow off the extra energy. Not that this always works, but sometimes it gives me a few minutes peace and quiet, lol. I figure the day will come though when he won't want to be around me and will become quiet and sullen, so I try not to push the issue to much.

My son is 3 years old and he is hyperactive too, like when we're out he just can't stop from moving even when he is sitting. But I know when he got a little older, it will change. The sad part here is that even I want him to go with me everywhere I go, I can't do it. I get easily tired and can't do what I have to do.

My wife and i are both hyper people. So yeah, our son was very active even in the earlier stages and he's a right blast now he runs around the room. (of course someone has to hold is hand and support him) he plays but i love it and i can manage because i'm the same. You should see what i do when someone joins my forum. I jump up and run around the room like a madman! Kudos ~Joey
