Do telemarketers annoy you?

We have to have to make a living, but telemarketes many times are rude and overbearing. First I'm interested in the product, then they rattle on too long and wont answer questions. Frustrated, I say forget it to stop them and hang up. Ooof!

I hate them with a passion. My daughter used to work as a telemarketer in Huntington while she was going to Marshall University and she said they got cussed out on a regular basis. people were so rude to her that she finally quit and she was in tears. I am not rude to them but I hate it when they call. I politely tell them that I am not interested and hang up.

The worse job in the world is a cold call telemarketer. I remember doing the same while I was in college. It was nerve racking and I hated trying to convince someone to buy something they dont really want. Today when I have one on the phone, I simply interrupt their speech politely, then inform them I am not interested and to have a nice day, then hang up quietly.

What gets me are the ones who won't take no for an answer. Yes I know they are trying to earn a living but when I say no I'm not interested and they keep on and I repeat it to no avail it is very irrating. I hang up as well. What is worse though is the ones that keep calling back. The ones that keep wanting to sell you something or have you come back to some business. Even though we tell them we don't want it they keep calling. Those really irritate me.

We don't get as many telemarketing calls as we used to but ANY is too many. They're very irritating and most of the time we let the answering machine pick up and they just hang up without saying anything.

I worked in telemarketing for about 5 years as well as numerous other sales positions including door to door. I learned to generate referrals, smooth talk (manipulation), and how to be productive toward making money. I learned a lot from the sales world and made a lot of money, but ultimately am glad I am done with it as I do not agree with coercion of any kind. Inevitably marketing is most always coercion. I typically am not bothered by telemarketers though I rarely buy anything from them. This isn't because they don't have anything I want, but they can never pass my credibility test. One telemarketer did actually pass and I bought magazines from him. He was very kind and willing to call me back a few days latter so I could research the information he gave me on his company. I simply told him yes I would like to subscribe to one or more of your magazines but first I have to check up on you guys. Most telemarketers are scared to let the call go, and will try to close the sale right then and there. This guy was obviously a professional, and because he earned my respect he earned the sale. Of course I still would not have bought anything had I not been interested or could not afford it but that is obvious. The point is that I believe telemarketers need to not be annoying. In my own experience not being annoying helps make the potential customer more willing to listen. Of course one time I did just hang up on a telemarketer because I had no time to talk and he would not give up when I said no several times.

Yes, telemarketers do annoy me and it seems like they always call about dinner time. Trying to get them off of the phone without being rude back to them is very hard. They don't listen. If we don't want to be bothered by telemarketers we should put ourselves on the 'do not call list' at: http://www.donotcall.gov and register our phone and cell phone numbers. It is good for five years. Yayyyy!

I understand that everyone has to make a living, but that's one of the worst professions ever. It's just annoying, and the fact that they won't leave you alone when it comes to things, especially when you tell them not to call you anymore and they do anyway. Gah.

Stress - Telemarketers can cause a lot of stress when they won't stop calling.
I know the ones you mean. In fact there is one that calls me repeatedly. He calls so often that I've gotten to recognize his voice. He tells me at least once a week that I've won a satellite TV system, all we have to pay for is the two year service. At least once a week I tell him that we already subscribe to the service that he is trying to sell me. He then asks me if I know anyone that I could refer for the service so that I can get a certificate for $50 off my bill. He just doesn't take no for an answer. He always calls back again the next week. It would be funny if it wasn't so frustrating.
