The close metro city to me just had 4 murders in the last 24 hours! This makes for for a total of 8 murders for this year and we are not even done with January yet! Wow! What is happening? It's not a full moon that some people blame erratic behavior on...I do not know the planet alignments currently. But I do not think either one of those reasons are excuses for the taking of another's life! There was a double homicide of two adults that the two dogs were even shot! Then a man was found on the street shot in the head and yet to be identified. And a woman found in her apartment shot to death. All in 24 hours! Is there a rise in your area of crime? I know we become desensitized by the news everyday. But I hope that we do not become so desensitized to just shrug it off as just more news out there that didn't effect our families. Because the fact is...we never know. This is becoming a scary world to live in! It isn't even safe to live in the Amish community! Sorry I am rambling. I am just in awe at the crime rate increase and wonder if I should fear for my family. Here is the story about Tulsa if you would like to read more. http://kotv.com/news/local/story/?id=118838 What is the crime rate like you are at? The city I live in is reported as the safest city in Oklahoma. But do I need to feel worried when Tulsa is knocking on our porch door?

As far as I know there has not been a murder here in my area so far this year. This did just find a lady in the trunk of a car, but she was murder over three months ago, so that doesn't count for this year does it? I think that there is only about 3 or 4 murders in my immediate area a year, of course this is not actually facts this is just me remembering how often I hear about one, so I guess it really could be a lot worse, but I don't think that it is. You should always fear for your family, but you can not yet it interfer with your life, but always be fearful, because anything can happen at any moment.

That is very true. Sometimes you don't realize the murder rates in your area just because you do not hear about them. I guess there is not really any reason to worry about them, just as long as you are a little fearful for your family. And, not paranoid! That would be very stressful!! :)

Last year in the village where I live (in the UK) we had just under 100 crimes .. in the whole of last year .. !! Those 100 crimes included a garden gnome being removed from a garden and being placed in a different garden, car windscreen wipers being removed, a broken window, a hedge being broken down .. and all such similar crimes .. all petty crimes, we had no serious crime whatsoever, no one was injured in any way, 6 house burglaries where a purse was taken, a jacket and other small items .. so all in all a pretty average year and remember these crimes were for the whole year! It is very quiet here, very nice people and a genuine community .. we don't really know what crime is do we!

Hey Patootie, I think I need to move to where you are! Having seven children, I am so worried that something might happen all the time. The increase crime rate just makes my fears worse. Care to have some roomies? ha ha Just kidding.

The crime in the city that I live in is not too bad compared to many other cities in the country but yet it is not perfect either. In the city areas, it is much worse as far as crime is concerned. I do think crime is getting worse in both my area and in my state in general. There has been suspicious activity in my neighborhood the last few months so I am going to neighborhood meeting next week to see if something can be done. Just because we do or do not hear about it, does not mean there are no crimes going on.

I am really sorry to hear about all of the murder and crime that is happening near you right now :/ That is really sad. I don't know about here in Kansas City. I hate listening to sad stories on the local news. I really wasn't keeping up with news at all until Mylot *laugh* Mylot has really gotten me into looking up the wacky news from around the world, and of course I read other people's news stories that they post. But locally I really don't know. I haven't heard anything major. It does seem really excessive, 8 murders within the first month of the year, and four within 24 hours :( Now if only these are the only murders all year there.. that still wouldn't make up for what's already happened, though, and I'm so sorry :(

Your anxieties are well understood think, of late this has become a universal phenomenon. Being an astrologer I do not deny the influence of a peculiar astral combination affecting the complex human mind. But that cannot be a perennial malady , I feel the reason lies in some of the simple facts ,the facts of the modern living and greed. People want easy money, success, averse to hear a different voice ,jealousy ...the list go on. In simple terms lack of humanism(?). A contented person never bounce at others. I am living in a small city in India and there is little trouble this way. Still sometimes some miscreants make problem in the name of politics or religion but not series of murders. But the city near to me The silicon valley of India 'Bangalore' has found a place in the list of those notorious cities you have been mentioning. Call centre girls are being assaulted and murdered, kids are being kidnapped. There was a shocking news from the suburban 'Delhi', the capital of the country about series of missing children. They found that all of them were murdered for reasons that would scare anybody. for human organs. really scaring. But We cannot run away. I feel the governments need to be more vigilant and merciless in dealing with such cases.

That is very scary to be murdered for human organs! Wow! And you are very right about the motive of crime increases. People do what the easy way and many other reasons. Thank you for your contribution. I had read that you did astrology in another post so I was wondering on what your take as going to be to it also. :)

I am so tired of all this. I am scared to even let my kids go places. I dont like to go anywhere that much anymore! I figure it is just safer at home in my own living room behind locked doors!!

I do not think that you should worry as long as you are staying away from the area where crimes are high. Our city has high crime rate on certain part of the city and as long as you stay away from those areas, you should be fine.

Wow! What a dealy start to just January 2oo7!! Well, of course I live in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma just like you do...but I had no idea about the homicides. I think that there is no harm in worring a little about where you live. Or you could be the next if you have no worry! Great Discussion and I loved your writing on...'Should you feel worried when Tulsa is knocking on out back porch'!! LOL that was funny. And, I liked your little Line Up picture in this discussion!! :DD

I find that the world is becoming scarier and scarier as the days roll on. It would not take much to make an agoraphobic,(I think that's right)out of me. People have lost thier minds and thier compassion for one another. I wish every now and then that I could move to an island out in the middle of nowhere with nobody but my family.

I also live in Oklahoma just north of Tulsa actually. I used to live in Tulsa but got tired of hearing about all the violence and seeing crap happen everyday! I think the crime rate is going up there big time and it all gets blamed on Mexicans but I dont think its just mexicans, Its all races and people just want someone to blame it on. I did fear for my family when living there thats why after I had my daughter I got out of there. But it seems it dont matter what city you are in anymore murders are happening. In Owasso there was triple homicide a couple years where a 10 yr old girl even got killed and in Collinsville there was 2 murders within about a month and this is very small town. 1 of the guys was murdered (which was a freind) right on main street just 3 blocks from the police station. He was murdered by our high school janitor who claimed self defense and still works at the high school! It just seems crime is everywhere, No matter where you are! I am assuming you live in BA since you said safest city but I hate to say that as fast as BA is growing, It wont be safe for long. Its building up there, The child molester, The Fake ID rings etc so murder is bound to be next. anyway just my 2 cents!

Very sad. I'm not sure if we're desensitized from the news or from TV in general. It seems to be okay to shoot people on TV. The crime rate where I am is okay, I guess. It's certainly a lot worse than where I came from in Canada but not too bad compared to other cities in the States. My son was held up at gunpoint two days before Christmas. It still scares me to think about it, but they took his wallet (and the pizza he was delivering) and let him go. I hope that was something unusual for your area and doesn't continue at that rate. Be careful when you're out and about and lock your doors.

Wow! I am sorry your son was held up! I am just glad that he is okay! I have had a problem about not locking my doors when my children are at school. But I am trying to break that habit. LOL

Crime is getting very bad and more violent here in Michigan. I don't know the statistics, but we see it every night on the news. Of course, last I knew we had the highest unemployment rate in the country. I think that has not helped the situation any.

i live in new york and whenever i watch the news there is always at least one crime in the area. but when they show the crime rate they always say that it is the lowest that it has been at in a while. but in my area i rarely hear about any sort of crimes.

I think there is a high crime rate where I'm currently living, which is Toronto. I'm not exactly sure but I don't think our crime rate is as high as it is in the States. I just recently moved into a new apartment, after not even 3 weeks of living here, the owner gets murdered just downstairs near the lobby! They still haven't found out who did it or why, it's pretty creepy because the murderer could still be living in my building!! I am very worried about crime rates, and I am especially worried because it has happened so close to home, and I never want anything bad to happen to my family.

That definetely sounds insane. You live in the city that is suppose to be the safest! I live in Walton county Florida and I don't think it is at all bad here. It is a tourist area and crime rate is low!

Where I live there is almost no crime at all . I have lived in this area for the last 30 years of my life and only know of one murder that happened . We don't see the theft that the bigger cities do it would be minor stuff by kids and pretty much everyone knows who they are . I live in the country and everyone pretty much knows everyone and if you don't know the person you are guaranteed that someone you know , knows them . It is a good place to raise children crime wise the draw back is everyone knows much of your buisness and what they don't know they will make up .
