What would you rather do-- read a book or watch the movie that was adapted from a book? There are so many movies nowadays that were adapted from books-- there's the harry potter series, the lord of the rings, etc. I personally like reading the books rather than watching the movies. The movies I feel have mutilated the books and the stories are not what they are initially meant to be. I think these movies are doing a grave injustice to the writers of these books.

I like watching movies, and i like movies that you've mention. i think movies producer or directors didn't violated any rights of the writers. we know, before they make the movie they already consulted, ask permission to the writers, even for the changes on stories i gues ^_^. Well, maybe their reason is cost effects, budgets; coz in our mind imagination has no limits unlike in reality. Changing some points in stories is someway to make it most appealing to the viewers. And if not for the movies, i think these books we'll never be heard only those like you who love to read books. No hard feelings on my point of view. ~_^

in the past i have read the book first and then i watched the movie. and i think in the past it was the best but then i´ve read the parfum and watched the movie 1 year later. it was not the same. i thought the movie was better than the book. it was a new particular expirience for me.

it differce from case to case. i have read some books those were awesome and later i have watched the movie based on that book and that movie sucks. but incase of harry potter the movie is definitely better i think. never the less lord of the rings is better then its paper version.

me too. take for instance dan brown's Da Vinci code. brilliant cast and production but it just fell short somehow. the book was far more spectacular than the movie.

I prefer watching the movie, no doubt about it. I don't like reading books, I find them boring when compared to movies.

It's always made me smile when people equate TV with intelligence. Sure there is some pretty dumb stuff on TV, but there are also many expertly crafted TV shows, such as Six Feet Under, The Shield, Studio 60 and a host of others. Definitely, cable gives a writer much more freedom on the subjects they can tackle and explore, but in recent years, there seems to be better plotted shows on network TV, problem is, they get cancelled before given the chance. .... But If you started reading books instead of watching TV,your vocabulary would definitely increase and your view of the world would morph as you read. Reading requires more concentration, I think, and is a much more personal, private experience. You and the author connect on some level and you are responsible for creating the images in your head based off what the author has crafted.

I'd rather see the movie. I don't like to read very much. I can watch the movie in 2 hours and reading takes me forever. I don't thik making a movie from a good book is doing an injustice to the writers. Look at the examples you gave. They were excellent movies.

I like reading books than watching the movies. Cause of when I read book, I am able to imagine all pictures about the content of story. But when I watch the movies, I only see the picture that express the idea of film director. So it is quite different than what I had read.

It all depends, as everyones views it from an different angle, would differ from person to person. But as for me i would still prefer going in for both, i would be neutral, i would not prefer goin in for one, as for me some would be better go for books while at some books would be drag n boring, not at the least intersting...... Cause picturization always would give a more clearer picture...... Besides how well were these writers known before their books were described in form of movies, werent these people all more famous..... Look at Jk Rowling........have earned ,millions

I like to read but recently I am watching movies made on the books. For example The Devill Wears Prada. I would have not thought about reading that novel but I watched the movie and enjoyed.

I love to read a book because I will know the ending of the story. If you watch movie adapted from the bokk, they will continue it several time so they will get more profit. I hate to wait in order to know the ending.

I must admit that is easier for someone to watch the movie that was adapted from the book than reading it.But,if you really enjoy the movie I guess you would like to read the book also to see if the movie is the original ecranisation of the subject`s book

in the case of harry potter and lord of the rings, i both read and watched the movies. i wanted to see how the directors interpreted the authors' vision especially with regards to the scenery and action. for the others, i'd rather read the book because movies tend to shorten the story. sometimes i wait for scenes that i know i read in the book but i am disappointed when they are not used in the movies.
