The much loathed word of submission, what role does it play in your marriage, what definition of submission have you accepted as your own? Is it an ugly word to you? Or is it a soothing balm, bringing love and releaving stress? Is your base a "world" base or a biblical one?

The concept of submission has been misused in the church for a long time, trapping abused women even more than they already are. The scriptures on submission are frequently preached without the accompanying context which tells the man to treat his wife with the same love that Christ has for the church. When you have submission coupled with that kind of love, you would probably have the ultimate relationship. When you have a man who takes advantage of the scriptures on submission to force her to accept abuse, you have a disaster.

I agree with you! True submission is a beautiful, healthy part of marriage, but when the definitions of words like this, are not understood, or maybe misunderstood, it can lead to abuse, or to the utter rejection of the word of God. Thanks so much for your comment!
